I started managing the JMP Academy in January 2020. Not great timing! But at least I could welcome one class before the world went online only.
We’ve learned a lot of good stuff in the last two years. We had to massively simplify and condense the program to fit into a few one-hour virtual sessions so that people in Tokyo, San Francisco, and everywhere in between could attend together. However, welcoming our newest colleagues and making them feel excited to have joined JMP is much harder to do via webcam.
So it was seriously good to be back in an actual room delivering Academy to actual people as part of our EMEA H2 kickoff in Heidelberg last week. Our new EMEA colleagues were invited to stay for an extra day to give them more time to connect with each other and start to build a network that will help them to have a fulfilling career with JMP.
They’d already had a solid two days of presentations (and some fun evening events) so we gave them plenty of interactive team exercises to keep it lively. A highlight for me was seeing them learn what it is like for our users working in industrial R&D. We gave them an aeronautical engineering task: to optimize the design of paper helicopters using DoE. It was no surprise that the Systems Engineers took a lead in helping their team but I really loved hearing Inside Sales people asking great questions about dealing with measurement variability.

"That was so much fun! I felt like a scientist for a while, collecting data and optimizing the design of paper helicopters – future looks exciting!" – Marija Lind, Account Executive, Nordics
We also helped the class to learn a bit about our core JMP industries, how we demo JMP, and how to be brand ambassadors using LinkedIn.
Thanks to Hadley Myers (@HadleyMyers), Emmanuel Romeo (@Emmanuel_Romeu), Martin Demel (@martindemel), Florian Vogt (@Florian_Vogt), and Nina Chan (@nina_chan). And thanks most of all to Tatjana Keller (@tkeller) for being a great participant while also seamlessly taking care of all the planning and logistics!
