If the question is truly about multivariate process monitoring (not sure if that is Jeff's word or Silvio's), then the control charting technique has many more parameters to keep track of arising out of the covariance matrix for the multiple variables being charted. In the truly multivariate case, IR and X-Bar don't make sense to me.
Can one of you clarify the intent here so I can understand what we're asking for?
