How to be a good host
Whether you are hosting attendees in person or online “It’s about being a good host,” said Senior Director of Marketing Diana Levey (@Diana_Levey). “Think about hosting a family reunion at your house, how are you going to welcome people and take care of them?”
- Make sure you’re registered and wear your badge.
- Be a gracious and knowledgeable host.
- Before next week: Know where, when and how to do the specific job you’re there to do.
- Be ready to answer any question about the in-person event – or the online event the following week.
- Go to the back of the line – any line.
- Focus on our guests and skip the staff conversations.
- If you’re not busy adding value, make yourself scarce.
A few things to consider, since this is the first time we are hosting DSA both in person and online
- The online event is complimentary to the in person, rather than a duplication. So, encourage in-person attendees to join us online too.
- Set a good example by adhering to Covid-related precautions.
- Wear a mask unless speaking into a mic or eating.
- Ask someone to be your backup if you can’t attend.
- Skip papers unless there are empty seats.
- Don’t stand in the back of the room – any room.
- Watch plenaries from the staff room.
- If it feels crowded and you are not adding value, make yourself scarce.
If you have registered for the in-person event but no longer feel comfortable participating, we understand. Let Lori Harris know about your change in plans right away. (And look forward to helping make the following week’s online event a success!)
