We are considering ways to add more preference settings for Table operations. This may be added in future releases of JMP.

Tables – Summary: The “Link to original data table” option is always checked. But almost never needed. There is no possibility to turn this off in the Preferences. Please change.

Happy to see this progress. For us, we use Tabulate when we want a link between the data and the summarized version, and tend to prefer Summary when we're going to let go of the original data (e.g., proceed with summarized) - but with the links to the parent data table and all the column locking and stuff that Summary does, it can be frustrating.
