Hi all-- See my customer's question below. I can do this in a series of manual steps and save as a script, but hoping to find a simple way to do it. Almost seems like an odd format we might see in one of the Reliability platforms (like Nevada format)...

I wonder if you have a suggestion for this particular problem I’m facing. I have a lot of data on inventory of parts, like what’s shown below. The data represents the amount of material on-hand by Year and by Pe (month). I need to create plots and tables showing how much inventory we had at a particular time. At first glance, you’d think all I would need is a data filter for year and month and we’re done. The problem is that the way the data is stored, it only enters a value for months when a change occurred. If nothing changed, then there’s no entry and the data filter method will use zero for the value (because there isn’t one).
For example, look at the second “material description” below. In 2016 month 3, there was $6,186 in inventory. There are no other entries until month 10, where it increases to $6,284. If I ask JMP for the inventory in month 7, for example, it will say zero, but I need it to say $6,186 because that was the last reported value at the time.
Do you have any ideas how I could use JMP with this data to return an accurate summation of inventory given this constraint?
