Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 12, 2022.
This week, we continue to finalize end-of-release tasks for JMP 17.0. Simultaneously, many developers have started work in JMP 18.0 and are integrating some fixes to JMP 17.1. It’s a busy time all around.
A gentle reminder to all developers to please triage items in your areas that still have 17.0:OPEN as the Fix Version. To help you – please click here to review the 17.0:OPEN items assigned to you.
- Update items you hope to address in 17.1 and 18 by changing the value to 17.1:OPEN or 18.0:OPEN, or both if appropriate.
- For Stories on your 17.0:OPEN list that you don’t expect to get to in 18, demote them to Feature Requests.
- View the bulk update how-to page. (Or ask for my help, I’m happy to do a batch update for you)
Work continues on development of My JMP, a web portal where customer administrators will be able to log in and download JMP and license files for JMP and JMP Pro. I saw an impressive demo of My JMP this week, showing off how easy this new customer experience will be. Teams are driving hard toward our October JMP 17 delivery date to be able to point customers to this resource, rather than the SAS Download Manager. We can look forward to a demo of My JMP in the JMP Development meeting in September. Congratulations the Salesforce team and Community Operations team on the progress!

- John Sall: Fixed a bug in the Grouped regressors effect type when used as Random effects, for both Fit Mixed and Fit Least Squares[REML]. Fixed in both main and 17.1. The problem was reported by Russ Wolfinger in a Genetics application where one variance component would reach over hundreds of gene regressors. Elizabeth Claassen is working on this also. Chris Gotwalt is working on a scaled-up version of this where tens of thousands of regressors could be used. (https://rndjira.sas.com/browse/JMP-13710). Made a number of UX changes to the Design Space Profiler in response to a usability study conducted by Bryan Fricke. (https://rndjira.sas.com/browse/JMP-13697)
- Laura C-S: Pushed a big change adding a new estimator for starting values in SEM—so far it seems overall performance and convergence has improved for models with latent variables. Emailed a couple lengthy answers to questions about SEM.

- We are happy to learn from John Jones that the entitlement period for downloading subscription software has been removed. This fix should make for a better experience for our various subscription customers.
- Next week, we look forward to welcoming Duane Hayes back on Tuesday!

Development Operations
- Trish: Localization is frozen for 17.0 for software and doc shipping with JMP. Remaining for 17.0: Localized JMP Live and HTML5 Online help and JMP Deployment Guides. Work is underway to get stringbot and scanbot running for 17.1 for next weekend.
- Bob: Worked with Audrey and Jim to design safe folder design containing all the latest nightly installers in one location. Worked with Jeff P on coming changes to support use of My JMP by customers administrators. Modified Windows installers to remove all files from jmptojava folder before updating new files so no chance of old files hanging around
- Jim: Working with the Data Center to remotely access Mac Minis for Jenkins CI build. Adding more testing machines for daily JSL script runs for JMP 17.0 and 17.1. Many (physical) Mac Minis are in the process of being upgraded or restaged; VMs are being created. Perforce support.

Working with Ernest and testing Workflow changes that were pushed to 18 and may get integrated back to 17.1. Processing EA feedback. Working with Qiana on a few Documentation items.
- Hunter: Investigated JMP 17 EA 9 issue where a report setting was not persisting properly in project, installed Ventura Beta 5 on MDA692 to confirm JMP-13655 was still present, and verified JIRA items for the Menu Card.pdf and Quick Reference Card.pdf files in all supported languages.
- Josh L: JMP Live 17.0 Regression testing. Updating regress JSL to use the 17.0 changes. JMP Live Dev and Test Server deployments: JMPLIVERelease upgraded to 17.0, JMPLIVEFix upgraded to 17.1, and JMPLiveDaily to 18.0. I refactored some of the code that installs the nightly build. This will allow me more time to test and less time deploying by hand. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
- Mike M: Updated web Sikuli tests for new Chrome icons, worked through very large image diffs for newer 17.1 and 18.0 streams, caught a crash that allowed an illegal combination to run the Fit Model (disabled testcase until Clay updates his code), identifying a couple new Sikuli tests for JMP-4906 and JMP-2804, working to understand and verify TOTD updates for 17.0.
- Nick H: 18.0 verifications. Two EA9 tracks. Adding a new baseline test testAddIn.jsl which has been started to test that the min JMP version field is correct and updated for each new version of JMP. Submitted JSL Search performance tests which will go live as soon as Jacob updates his driver file. Worked on a script to compare JMP preference GUI strings to JSL preference strings, constructing a data table showing which pref strings match completely, partially, or don’t show up in JSL at all. Plan to talk with Ernest about a possible plan to make these strings more consistent in the future.
- Audrey: Along with Brian C, meeting with our migration partner at ClearVision who will help us to move Jira/Confluence to JMP’s own instance, along with a few support items to go along with that. Creating a migration test plan for both Jira and Confluence. Created the covering array that will be used for 17.0 installer testing later this month. Starting to learn about telemetry changes in 17.1 and 18 so we can prepare a test plan for that.
