The option to import .mtp (Minitab Portable Worksheet Files) could be removed from File > Open. Minitab hasn't supported that type of file for more than 10 years, so suggesting to customers that JMP can open Minitab files could be a bit misleading.
Thank you for sharing this suggestion @MarilynWheatley . Have passed this along to the development team.
Minitab (current ver. 21.2) supports three native formats namely:
https://support.minitab.com/en-us/minitab/21/help-and-how-to/data-input-and-output/open-files-and-import-data/open-a-file/
Supporting Minitab Worksheet format would be good since in some use cases customers use both MTB & JMP, and would give a good degree of interoperatblity JMP is famed for.
(if my memory is right MTB till ver 18 used to support *.jmp)
Thank you @Chandramouli_R . @MarilynWheatley, do you have anything to add to Chandra's comments?
There are existing requests to read .pmx and .mwx files. Assume the priority would be .mtx files. Can you please confirm?

Thank you,

The .mpx and .mwx are the newer formats that were introduced as part of the Minitab interface overhaul a few versions ago. The .mpj and .mtw are older formats that are still supported (mainly for academic users and consultants/trainers that haven't or don't want to update materials), but those formats are likely on the path to deprecation.
The current version of Minitab can open both .mpj files and .mtw files, but the only options for saving in the new version are .mpx and .mwx. Additionally, when an old .mpj file is opened in a recent version of Minitab, the link between any graphs and the data is lost, and the only solution is to recreate the graphs and control charts in the new version.
The .mpx files can contain multiple worksheets and output, some of which may be linked to the worksheets used to create those results in Minitab. Even if JMP could import these files, the graphs/analysis results would likely just be a static images that would have to be recreated in JMP.
If the intent is to support users that want to transition from Minitab to JMP, the most important file type that JMP should open would be .mwx, so users can open their Minitab data files directly into JMP, without having to use Excel to transition the data.
Thank you @MarilynWheatley! I'll share this information with development via this Jira (also added above): JMP-6740
