Couple of Wishes before XmasSince it is getting close to Xmas, I thought it would be a good time to make some wishes.
1. Is that possible to add image thumbnails as row label for interactive HTML output? currently only data or text will work for interactive HTML output.
2. Is there way to elimate the legend for fit spline? it adds a significant box of legend of all the splines fited.
3. Can we make the interactive HTML more interactiv?, such as enabling choose group of data by click on the legend. Zoom in and zoom out specific region. change the axis by drag up and down.
4. If the interactive HTML can support the dashboard function that would be great. much easier and more straight forward to arrange the webpage.
5. As you may already notice from the questions above that we use the interactive HTML quite a lot. it is possible to make it loading quicker in IE? We have tons of webpage to review everyday. every page takes 5-10 s to load that really adds up.
6. Any good reference for interactive HTML scripts?
GraphicsScriptingUser InterfaceRe: Couple of Wishes before XmasGreetings - item 3 in the original post mentioned having the ability to zoom and manipulate the axes via drag and drop. @josh_markwordt mentioned that this feature was on the roadmap, but i wanted to share that it has been delivered in HTML5 output for JMP 16.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@josh_markwordt I see. that is probably why it did not work out. I will try the general user community to see anyone have experience on how to delete it.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@wencun6 I went back and tried to dig up the code change where we added this feature, and I believe this was implemented in JMP 13 so hiding the legend won't work in JMP 12 either. Maybe you can post a general question in the community about how to delete this display box from the display tree in JMP 12 from JSL - it wouldn't display in HTML if it wasn't present in JMP (rather than just hidden).
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@josh_markwordt I checked with my site JMP masters. Looks like we are not going to implement JMP14 any time soon for scripthost, even though desktop version is available rightnow. Still pending on resource to enable it on scripthost. For removing the splie fit legend, I am not sure why I can only make it work on the JMP desktop, but for some reason the interactive HTML is not doing it. We are using JMP pro 12 here for scheduled scripthost jobs. is there a way that you guys can help troubleshooting what is going on? many thanks
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@josh_markwordt our site is current not yet fully supported for JMP14 yet. so we will stuck for JMP12 for a while
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@wencun6 Thank you for your response and all your questions and suggestions! It sounds like using JMP 14 or even moving to 15 will give you many of the features you want since the ones you mentioned came in JMP 13 (dashboards and image row labels, I can't remember when the properties editor to hide the legend came in but I can confirm it works in 15, let me know if you tried it in 14 and it doesn't work), and the rest there were some tips to help. It is always nice to hear from customers that are using the Interactive HTML features my collegues and I have worked on to do their job, so please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, bugs, or feature requests.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@josh_markwordt many thanks for the helps. The tricks to hide the spline display box worked. only problem is that it seems to only work in the JMP desktop. For some reason the interacive HTML just ignore my option to hide them.
for the dashboard. i am currently actively using both JMP pro 12 and 14, while 12 is the workhorse. 14 is not fully supported yet.
I did not know using image as Row label for thumbnail will work with interactive webpage. I forward this to my colleague. He will look into it.
many thanks for the helps.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas#1 If I understand correctly what you want, from the picture you have a column of images and you want them to appear in the hover labels of points? @John_Powell_JMP implemented this for points for both pinned tooltips and the tooltips you get by hovering over the HTML graph in JMP 13 as well: http://www.jmp.com/jmphtml5/GraphBuilder/_html5/TemperatureByDistance.htm
What you need is an expression column with images, such as in the sample data set Big Class Families. You must right click the image column and select "Label/Unlabel" so that the little label icon appears on the left hand side indicating that it is a labelled column (not individual rows being labelled). In this dataset, the picture column is already labelled so you can just run the script "Graph Builder with Pictures". In general, labeling a column will force it to appear in the tooltip.

This was initially done for points in JMP 13, but was later added to Bubble Plot and Graph Builder lines, areas, heatmaps, and maps although I can't remember exactly what releases those were done in. Let me know if you have a case where points aren't working, or a different type of graph where you'd like to see this supported.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas#4 Can I ask what version of JMP you are using? Because if I'm understanding correctly, this feature has been supported in Interactive HTML output since JMP 13 but I'm just going by the picture. Here are several old examples from that release (note if you hover on the question mark button up at the top it will display a tooltip that says JMP 13). We update the look and feel as well as adding features from release to release, but it still works in 14 and 15 (unless you have a script to provide where it isn't working then we can look at the issue):

Here is an updated Dashboard from JMP 15 hosted on JMP Public:

Re: Couple of Wishes before XmasOk, let me follow up on these individually, first #2. This is running the following simple script on the sample data set Big Class:
Bivariate(
Y( :weight ),
X( :height ),
Fit Spline( 1000, {Line Color( {61, 174, 70} )} )
);
Right click on the legend, go to Edit > Show Properties and it will pop up the side bar that lets you navigate all the display boxes of the display and customize their properties. If you click on a part of the legend (which is actually several nested display boxes, it will get you close, and then navigate up the tree until you get to the BorderBox that contains all the little pieces that make up the legend (see the attached picture).
Using the Edit Properties sidebar to hide the legendUsing the Edit Properties sidebar to hide the legend
Then use the "Visibility" dropdown to choose Hidden or Collapse (if you choose collapse the box no longer takes up space in the layout, for hidden it is not visible but there is a blank space where it should be). HTML5 treats both as collapse, saving the extra space, but either will make it not appear in Interactive HTML/JMP Live output.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas
@josh_markwordt many thanks for the tips. I really like the idea of creating the bar graph as the legend.
1 - I am not sure what you mean by this request. Can you please clarify some or give an example of what you are trying to do?
Please see above image for sample of using image as row label.
2 - Do you mean on JMP desktop or specifically in Interactive HTML?
I mean interactive HTML. but if the JMP desktop can work, may that would work for interactive HTML?
3 - The legends issue is actively being tracked in defects, I will indicate that you requested it. The other two items (panning and zooming) are on the roadmap for a future release.
I got your other comment, and will try that method.
4 - We do support dashboards (as of JMP 13), at least rendering one created in JMP. Please send us specific examples if you feel they don't work properly and we can work on that, or let me know if I have misunderstood what you mean.
I mean the dashboard for the HMTL option?
5 - JMP 14.2 was the last release that we officially supported Internet Explorer. As of JMP 15 it is no longer supported for Interactive HTML or JMP Live. We do support Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
I got tips from Angie. her method works perfectly.

Re: Couple of Wishes before XmasAlso I should mention for interactive legends, although not full support a workaround is offered here: https://community.jmp.com/t5/Discussions/Legends-in-Interactive-HTML-reports/m-p/211557#M42377

Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@a_mitlehner , many thanks Angie. That really helps. I did not know there is such a nice addon for chrome.
Re: Couple of Wishes before Xmas@wencun6 I have not used the interactive HTML myself, but if the files have consistent or predictable file names, AND you have the time/ability to preload trend/dashboards before the review, you may be use a bulk URL opener to preload (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bulk-url-opener/pknlccgephlicnahemjfcfnbifiglegd?hl=en). If you want more detailed instructions, send me an internal email and I'll send you a presentation. I'm angie.mitlehner.
