Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />Looking to do something like the attached picture... can't figure out how to crack it. Thoughts from the gallery?
Thanks!
M

Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?Okay... now I see it, but it really misbehaves with a log scale. I guess I can transform the data itself rather than just use a log axis to get around the problem.
Thanks!
Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?K, I'll have to squirrel that away under "stuff to do when I'm snowed in."
Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder? When you copy and paste an image within graph builder (you can click in the frame of graph builder, then right click an choose edit>Paste background image), a new right-click option appears called Image. You can click and then drag the image to move it where you want as well as hold the shift key down while resizing a corner of it to the size you want. The right-click>Image can help you scale things as well.
So I was thinking you made two graphs, One that zoomed in to the area of interest then using selection tool to select that graph and copy it. Then paste it in the full size graph , resize and move it to where you want.
Is that what you were looking to do? The pasted image is now a static image, but the right-click>customize option will allow it to be brought to foreground or background and transparency as well.
Something like this

Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder? It would have to be heavily scripted. You'd actually be drawing graphics images on top of Graph Builder's framebox; keeping this interactive--and working correctly--while someone moves things around would get a bit tricky, I think, but I don't see anything offhand that would make it impossible.
Someday that would make a cool addin
My quickie answer for this is: it is likely possible, but for most users, infeasible.
Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder? This might do it... But I'd still have to figure out how to overlay one graph box inside of another. Is that even possible?
Best,
M
Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?Using copy / paste it just adds the graph to the bottom of the window. Doing it as a background image gets some odd results (due to the log scale of the graphic, I think). How were you thinking about me doing the copy paste?
best,
M
Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?I've attached an old example script that does this; perhaps you could hack Graph Builder's framebox similarly. I don't see why not.
Run the attached. You can move the zoom box around or resize it using the handles.
You'd likely need the user to "commit" to the graph in graph builder, then apply the zoombox. Interacting with the GB controls after construction would be a pain to police. But, you could probably do it, I guess.

Re: Is there a way to do insets in Graph Builder?hey mike,
you can copy a graph and then paste into graph builder as a picture/image.
give it try
