Welcome to the JMP Development Update for June 24, 2022!
JMP 17 Approval Mode is now underway. Thanks to everyone for continuing to triage open issues and ask approvals for critical problems! We are moving toward our freeze for JMP 17 EA9 on 7/8/22 and JMP 17 Code Freeze on 7/20/22.
I sent out a note earlier in the week with details about how to submit an approval request. In summary, please send a note to the JMP Approvers list, providing links to the code review (if in Swarm) and Jira issue. Please include a summary of the issue as well as thoughts on its impact to downstream teams. Here is a perfect example of an approval request that Evan McCorkle submitted today for a problem with JMP Search duplication. It provides all the required information and even a screenshot showing the impact of the change. Thanks as always, Evan, for your thorough work resolving this issue!
Fixes [JMP-13116] Searching on Data Table shows duplicates for column utilities and [JMP-13117] Deduplication of search details when doc starts with tooltip. Both of which deal with duplication of information in the results for JMP Search. Both bugs are pretty high profile, easy to find, and obviously “incorrect”. I was hoping to fix these two to avoid getting many copies of the same internal/customer feedback about the duplication. Code changes for both fixes are local to the JMP Search code and relatively small and low risk.

No impact to L10N. Little impact on docs since results shown on the GUI may change. Though it may not be enough to warrant new screenshots if they are even affected. Little impact to testing because search results changed. I have rebaselined the search results unit tests within this shelf and the new results look good. Attached is a screenshot showing the effects of the changes on search results.

I appreciate ya’ll a LOT. Thanks in large part to all that help I received, I was able to get the JMP Live/Public/admin help out for review today. Feedback is due by July 1st. Worked on the HTML5 help, and John P has kindly agreed to review it while I’m out next week. I have sent him a review PDF to do an initial pass. After that, will add a few more WFB test to my JSL framework tests.

Note from Shannon
Most people have now heard the news that the conservative supermajority on the US Supreme Court today struck down the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that upheld the right to an abortion (NPR story here). Whatever your personal views on this decision, it is a historic one with immediate implications for people across this country.
In our democracy, you have the right to reach out to your elected government officials to make your thoughts and opinions known on this and other political topics. You have the right to praise your representatives’ reactions and statements on the decision (if you agree with them) or tell them so if you disagree. Regardless of your stance on Roe, you can tell your elected representative whether you want them to support legislation that provides resources and assistance to parents in the event of an unplanned pregnancy. You have a voice in our democracy – never hesitate to use it!
