Welcome to the JMP Development Update for April 1, 2022!
Big congratulations go out this week to Brad Jones for being chosen to give the Jack Youden Memorial lecture at the Fall Technical Conference (FTC) at the American Society for Quality (ASQ) conference in Park City, UT in October! This is the highest career recognition offered by the ASQ Statistics Division.
We are about a month away from our freeze date for JMP 17 EA8 on 5/3/22. This will be our second to last EA. As we get further from feature freeze and closer to our planned Code Freeze on 7/20/22, please make sure to triage your open Story and Epic type items in Jira and change Fix Version/s from 17.0:OPEN to 18.0:OPEN for items that you do not plan to address for this release. If you are still actively working on an item tagged with 17.0:OPEN, please change its status to Developing.
If you are curious about how to search Defects history after the upcoming retirement of the Defects system during the 3WM in May, there is this FAQ page in the SAS Confluence space. On that page, there is a How-To link on Using Defects Searchable Text Pages to browse that history.
Thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s Beta/Crash/Telemetry tracks with crashes selected!

Statistics
- John Sall: Process Screening has long needed to include the measurement error in the diagnostics for processes (JMP-7704) and now we are implementing a version of Kevin White's (Eastman Chemical) Process Potential Graph. As a new feature, this went through the UX Style committee in order to increase the EQ quotient, resulting in a dramatic presentation on how desirable it is to have high capability and low measurement error (Green area) and how having worse capability or measurement error results in other emotional states.

Stat Documentation
- Colleen: Documented Explore Outliers reorganization, as well as some bug fixes for RPCA Outliers. Worked in CCB a lot (documenting bug fixes and adding/extending examples). Added examples for Multiple Response Distributions in the Distribution section of the Scripting Index. Started looking at Design Space Profiler and found/reported some bugs.
- Karen: Got the Sample Size Explorer chapter out for review detailing the significant changes Caleb made to the UIs for the explorers in JMP 17.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Testing Space Filling Design, working on new unit tests for the diagnostics and tests for discrete numeric factors. Testing MSA Design, updating existing tests due to the removal of the variance column in the factor table and adding tests for JMP-11067. Verifying Jira tickets.
- Tonya: Working on beta reporting and bug verification.
Product Management
- Bryan F:
- UX Workstreams:
- Presentation Layer: Started developing React MUI prototype along the lines of a design idea of the bivariate platform developed by Kevin Potcner, Susan Conaghan, and me
- Developer Process: Completed processing of Kevin Potcner and Nicole Jones usability test results:
- Functional UX: Continued design charrette with Kevin Potcner and Susaghan and incorporated confidence interval graph in prototype.
- Reviewed JMP Live strings after Landra Cunningham’s initial pass. Landra did a fantastic JMP identifying issues with the strings. I verified a number of string improvements with the JMP Live developers. Provided feedback on Aaron’s new method of dealing with a number of JMP Live publishing errors. Provided feedback on what content should go into JMP Starter. Developed icons for Evan McCorkle’s search function.
Technical Support
- Duane: TS is still working with the Service Cloud implementation with NeuraFlash while maintaining our role helping our customers. The implementation has been extended for 2-3 weeks, and we continue making progress and improvements in the new system. Here are the TS JMP Live reports. (JMP Live 16) Here is information regarding Jira tickets opened by Tech Support.

Got access to a Mac VM from Nick, thanks Nick! That will allow me to work on the Mac tips too. Working on the Help menu updates and tooltips. We will implement the tooltip updates for 17, but wait on the menu changes until 18. Working with Bryan and Kevin on UI mocks for the UX team and meeting with the team today.
- Chris B: Working on some post-processing scripts for the JMP help.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Worked on workflow builder Jira verifies and adding tests. WFB works inside a project and you can zip up a package with the workflow and send it to some other machine or person and it runs smoothly. Tested action recorder fixes, Data filter and Local data filter fixes and added tests. Met with Professional development workstream group to discuss nurturing and growth of JMP employees. Working on a possible example of WFB for Discovery and/or a demo to our testing team in a few weeks. Will try and add in the new Tabulate features, and some new actions that are now recorded , perhaps inside a project.
- Nick H: Working with Myron to correct an issue in the testing dashboard with crash file names being incorrect in the crash pop-up window and in the list of crash files in the tester window. All should hopefully be resolved now. Created a video demoing the new display box hint systemthat was added by Evan and Dan S for JMP 17. Hopefully this can be shared with testers that find themselves accessing display paths frequently for their tests. Also continuing work on JSL Search baseline tests – working on easy ways to create new baselines when needed.
- Hunter: Worked on EA tracks and opened JIRA-11828 for a crash when choosing Window->Close All with multiple data tables and reports open, enrolled my two office Macs into Microsoft Intune, tested JMP Runner build for JMP-738 to correct a problem with HTML reports opened from the project contents pane, and JIRA verification.
- Audrey: Reviewing Community issues which have been fixed and notifying customers, InTune migrations for 3 machines, reviewed a few issues reported by Craige Hales, compiling info about data tables in the test suite that can be compressed.

Host
- Paul N: Intune migration of my 3 macOS machines and iPad. Helping out others with Intune migration. Map server configuration work within VM - looks like I have a demo application accepting WMS protocol, translating that to call the OpenStreetMap tile server and returning tiles. Need to configure so it behaves the way JMP 16 and earlier are expecting. Had to spend time getting JMP 16 to build under Xcode 13.3 as Xcode 12 is not supported under the current version of Monterey. Troubleshooting issues with the virtual machines, the map server is a punishing load and causes issues with the VMs. Looking into mitigation strategies for a 2 new 0-day exploits with the Spring framework jars that we use in SAS 9.4 support.

- Praveena: Created documents in confluence for Jenkins pipelines being used in HTML5 team and how to generate the build html using the scripts from the tools/Web folder. Worked on 0th tick mark missing from x-axis for categorical values and started work on Tabulate: HTML Entities lost.

- Aurora: Disallow access to personal space by other users, on JMP Public. Fix off-by-one error in audit log date filter download. A few smaller bug fixes. Start gathering requirements for Publishing Data (by itself) and start writing code for the simple case of publishing brand new data tables. JMP Live iteration retrospective. Intune migration. Draft abstracts for Discovery Americas 2022.
- Michael G: Did some prep work for scheduled data refresh UI & API, but passed it over to Justin. Modified space permissions page to allow you to add multiple users or groups at once. Updated icon library. Moved publish location selection to the start of the publish dialog to allow us to filter subsequent options appropriately. Added some plumbing for better error handling. Bug fixes.
