Hello,
I want to demonstrate to customers the "Alarm script e-mail" functionality in a Control Chart to automate SPC.
Unfortunately I get a pop-up from Outlook requesting approval ("Allow" or "Deny" button to click on) which prevent for automation.
When I click on "Allow", I receive an Warning message in Outlook mentionning "The format of the email address isn't correct". This seems to be due to the "SMTP:" in the e-mail adress ("SMTP:emmanuelromeu@jmp.com" rather than "emmanuelromeu@jmp.com"). I tried with my personal adress it doesn't works neither.
Any recomendation ?
note: I've seen on 2020-EU-30MP-404 (Heliatek) a workaround using "Blat", however 1) I don't know if it is permited and 2) it will be more difficult to convince customers of the easiness of JMP for automating SPC.
Emmanuel
Hi Emmanuel,
I have had this problem as well, sending email from JMP. There is no known way to bypass the popup message. Wendy Murphrey helped me in a TS thread, here is what she had to say:
[Regarding] your question about the Mail() function... Unfortunately, there has been no progress in this area since it is the result of security settings in Outlook. JMP does not have control over this setting and, thus, cannot override it.
Some customers with the same request have reported locating third-party tools to take care of the manual interaction successfully. As security settings do have their purpose, I typically defer to their IT staff to determine if it is an acceptable approach.
Another possibility might be to use Run Program() in JMP, which will allow you to use something like a batch file to send mail via Outlook. You will likely need to investigate how to run the mail application in batch mode to create a script that can be called by Run Program().
You also asked about the warning message that says the email address format is incorrect. I had this problem, too. It is probably because of a trailing blank in your email address, before the closing double-quote. In JMP 16, the default script for a control chart alarm email shows “test@example.com “, with a trailing blank. The trailing blank causes the email to fail, because the SMTP email protocol does not allow it. I was able to make the alarm email work by eliminating the space.
