Welcome to the JMP Development update for June 3, 2022!
JMP 17 EA9 will freeze in about 5 weeks. Please make sure to review your feature pages to add any necessary details for EA9, and don’t forget to evaluate all the items on the feature readiness checklist including testing with HTML5 and JMP Live. If you’re not sure how to do that testing, please reach out to Audrey Shull, Hui Di or Anna Kushner to ask for help with it. Changes in JMP can impact interactive HTML reports so it’s important to evaluate new features for that kind of regression.
As you are triaging your remaining Jira issues, please consider demoting Story items to Feature Request type if the ideas captured seem to deserve consideration at some point but do not appear to align with current product priorities. You can assign a Story or Feature Request to a product management team member to ask for their input and @ mention other team members who may want to weigh in on the idea.
The JMP PM team is already actively planning product priorities for JMP 18 based on existing known priorities. In addition, they are soliciting input on priorities from internal and external users (including EA customers). You can contribute to this effort by responding to the JMP 18 priorities survey linked in this Inside JMP article. Mia shared some details below about how you can help offer feedback on the new JMP 17 Easy DOE feature. She will be contacting our EA customers with a similar request.
In case you haven’t seen it, a new feature coming in JMP 17 is Easy DOE. This new platform makes it easy for someone new to DOE to get started and addresses the many requests we’ve received to improve the DOE workflow.
You might have already taken a look at Easy DOE as a member of the Early Adopter program, but the development team has made many improvements since EA8 came out in May. If you’re interested in learning more and in seeing this feature in action, please watch this video: Easy DOE in JMP 17. It was recorded by Mark Bailey using the Tuesday night build (May 31). If you have access to daily builds, please give it a try there. If you don’t, please try Easy DOE in EA8 which can be downloaded from jmp.com/earlyadopter. Please note that some functionality has changed since EA8 (as reflected in the video).
The DOE team is interested in receiving your feedback! Mark asks several questions at the end of the video. Please send your thoughts and feedback through jmpbeta@jmp.com. Thank you!

Speaking of new features in JMP 17, thanks very much to Xan Gregg and Dan Schikore for presenting some new work at this week’s JMP Dev meeting! If you missed the meeting, you can find a downloaded copy of the recording here. Xan presented on the enhanced tabular data view of the JMP 17 Graph Builder caption element and Workflow Builder. He asked me to give a shout out to tester Lisa Grossman who has been instrumental in improving the quality of this new feature. Dan Schikore also presented on the support he’s added for private reports in JMP 17 which has the potential to greatly improve performance for cases involving many windows.
If you’d like to present this summer at a dev meeting, please let me know! I still have dates available in June and July. Next week’s meeting will feature a JMP 17 update from the JMP Live team – “JMP Live comes of age”. Hope to see you there!

Product Management
- Bryan F: This week I created 14 workflow icons similar to the ones Stephanie had created previously. Sadly, we only had raster images of the icons that had been blended with a gradient background we no longer wanted. So, I created vector representations.
I also worked on creating splash screens for the various Windows Installers of JMP 17 products. For example:

For the Functional UX Workstream group I created and sent out a voting form to determine the priority on the various ideas the group developed for updating the Bivariate platform.
- Mia: Wrote internal and external EA members for feedback on Easy DOE with the video Mark Bailey recorded. Used workflow builder to create a repeatable workflow to prepare the EA campaign data for various outreach efforts. Conducting internal survey on the JMP 18 roadmap, with the plan of conducting a sister survey to EA members. Work on triaging Reliability wishes. Met with Sam and Kaylee to talk about the current wish list flow and process.

DOE
- Peng: Patched code to fend off insufficient data edge cases in Repeated Measures Degradation. Cleaned up and consolidated some common code in Repeated Measures Degradation. Fixed a bug in setting up the default prior for b2 parameter in constant Arrhenius rate model in Repeated Measures Degradation. Fixed JMP-12738: Journaling DOE does not properly display Responses or Factors controls. Also fixed JMP-402: Competing risk mixture giving bad estimates.
- Joseph: Continued Easy DOE work. Worked on refactoring fitting routines for Analyze and Predict tabs and working through various bugs. Also, worked on addressing user feedback.
Host
- Paul N: Working with blackduck scans. Updated libcurl because of 15 vulnerabilities identified since March! Unfortunately, there is a single vulnerability in the most recent libcurl from May 11 that has been fixed in curl’s source repository, but with no updated public release, we will likely have to update libcurl again before we ship JMP 17.0. Still waiting to hear back from SAS on whether the pending changes to upgrade from the Java Spring Framework v3.2 to v5.x are ready - at present our only other issue in blackduck. If SAS has completed the updates, we will need to make that change as well.
- John Schroedl: Fixed memory leak when exporting PowerPoint. Added versioninfo to jmptojava dlls. Updated OpenBLAS credits. Crash investigations. Telemetry server work begins.
HTML5
