Une année productive pour les brevets
Les inventeurs de JMP ont obtenu 10 brevets pour leurs innovations l'année dernière.
"Il y a beaucoup de travail innovant en cours chez JMP et les nombreux brevets de notre entreprise en sont la preuve", a déclaré Laura Castro-Schilo, Développeur principal de statisticien de recherche . « L'acquisition de brevets est un moyen d'assurer l'avenir de JMP alors que nous continuons à développer nos offres uniques et de pointe. SAS a organisé un dîner de célébration 24 mai à l'hôtel Umstead. Le directeur du conseiller juridique, Tim Wilson, a prononcé un discours d'ouverture. "Une grande partie de ce que nous faisons en R&D s'inscrit dans le développement, la catégorie 'D'", a-t-il déclaré. « Ce que vous avez fait en devenant inventeurs de brevets est du côté « R », ne pas rester au même niveau, mais l'élever. Cela demande de l'engagement, de l'expérience et souvent du temps loin des êtres chers.
Laura était parmi les participants. « C'était formidable d'avoir l'occasion de célébrer nos réalisations entre pairs et d'en savoir plus sur tous les autres brevets qui ont été accordés l'année dernière ! » dit-elle

Le processus de brevet SAS
Clay Barker, développeur principal de statisticiens de recherche, a siégé au comité des brevets de SAS pendant environ huit ans. « J'étais très enthousiaste à l'idée de rejoindre le comité. Nous faisons beaucoup de choses inventives au sein du groupe JMP et je pense que le fait d'être représenté au sein du comité des brevets valide vraiment cela.
Il a décrit le processus : « Lors de ces réunions, les inventeurs de toute l'entreprise ont l'occasion de présenter et d'expliquer pourquoi SAS devrait poursuivre le brevetage de leur invention/idée. Les membres du comité, comme moi, fournissent des commentaires sur ces inventions, ce qui aide les avocats en brevets à décider comment SAS devrait aller de l'avant. Souvent, nous parlons également des moyens d'améliorer encore l'invention, ce qui est cool. »
Étant donné que l'office des brevets utilise l'approche du premier déposant, celui qui dépose un brevet en premier est considéré comme l'inventeur.
"Les conseils en brevets de SAS, Dwight Thompson et John Sieman, facilitent le processus", a déclaré Ryan. "N'importe lequel d'entre nous serait heureux d'aider quiconque souhaite se lancer."
Clay est d'accord. « Pour faire court : si vous pensez que vous avez fait quelque chose qui pourrait être brevetable, vous devriez y aller. Nous avons tellement de chance de pouvoir travailler avec des avocats spécialisés en brevets… ils sont géniaux pour trouver des angles qui rendent nos idées brevetables. J'étais ravi que Dwight et John aient remporté le prix High Five 2020. »

Clay apprécie son implication dans le comité des brevets parce que "les gens de SAS résolvent beaucoup de problèmes sympas et j'ai eu un aperçu de beaucoup d'entre eux."
Mais tout n'est pas qu'amusement et jeux. "Plusieurs fois, j'ai même annoncé la mauvaise nouvelle selon laquelle nous ne devrions pas continuer à breveter l'idée d'un inventeur, car elle est déjà dans JMP depuis un certain temps !"
