Un año productivo para las patentes
Los inventores de JMP recibieron 10 patentes por sus innovaciones el año pasado.

El proceso de patentes de SAS
Clay Barker, desarrollador estadístico de investigación principal, ha formado parte del comité de patentes de SAS durante aproximadamente ocho años. “Estaba muy emocionada de unirme al comité. Estamos haciendo muchas cosas creativas en el grupo JMP y creo que tener representación en el comité de patentes realmente lo valida”.
Describió el proceso: “En esas reuniones, los inventores de toda la empresa tienen la oportunidad de presentar y explicar por qué SAS debería intentar patentar su invención/idea. Los miembros del comité como yo brindamos comentarios sobre estos inventos que ayudan a los abogados de patentes a decidir cómo debe avanzar SAS. Muchas veces también hablamos sobre formas de hacer que la invención sea aún mejor, lo cual es genial”.
Dado que la oficina de patentes utiliza el enfoque First to File, quien primero presenta una patente se considera inventor.
“Los abogados de patentes de SAS, Dwight Thompson y John Sieman, hacen que el proceso sea muy sencillo”, dijo Ryan. "Cualquiera de nosotros estaría feliz de ayudar a cualquiera que quiera comenzar".
Arcilla está de acuerdo. “En pocas palabras: si cree que ha hecho algo que podría ser patentable, debe hacerlo. Somos muy afortunados de poder trabajar con abogados de patentes... son excelentes para encontrar ángulos que hacen que nuestras ideas sean patentables. Me emocionó que Dwight y John ganaran el premio High Five de 2020”.

Clay disfruta de su participación en el comité de patentes porque "la gente de SAS está resolviendo muchos problemas geniales y he tenido una visión interna de muchos de ellos".
Pero no todo es diversión y juegos. "Un puñado de veces incluso he dado la mala noticia de que no deberíamos buscar patentar la idea de un inventor porque ya ha estado en JMP por un tiempo".
