Un anno produttivo per i brevetti
L'anno scorso gli inventori di JMP hanno ottenuto 10 brevetti per le loro innovazioni.
"C'è molto lavoro innovativo in corso in JMP e i numerosi brevetti della nostra azienda ne sono la prova", ha affermato Laura Castro-Schilo, Sviluppatore di statistica di ricerca senior . Il processo di brevetto SAS
Clay Barker, Principal Research Statistician Developer, fa parte del comitato dei brevetti SAS da circa otto anni. “Ero molto entusiasta di entrare a far parte del comitato. Stiamo facendo molte cose creative nel gruppo JMP e penso che avere una rappresentanza nel comitato dei brevetti lo convalidi davvero".
Ha descritto il processo: “In quegli incontri, gli inventori di tutta l'azienda hanno l'opportunità di presentare e spiegare perché SAS dovrebbe perseguire la brevettazione della loro invenzione/idea. I membri del comitato come me forniscono feedback su queste invenzioni che aiutano gli avvocati dei brevetti a decidere come SAS dovrebbe andare avanti. Molte volte parliamo anche di modi per rendere l'invenzione ancora migliore, il che è fantastico".
Poiché l'ufficio brevetti utilizza l'approccio First to File, chi deposita per primo un brevetto è considerato l'inventore.
"I consulenti in brevetti di SAS, Dwight Thompson e John Sieman, rendono il processo un gioco da ragazzi", ha affermato Ryan. "Ognuno di noi sarebbe felice di aiutare chiunque voglia iniziare."
Argilla è d'accordo. “Per farla breve: se pensi di aver fatto qualcosa che potrebbe essere brevettabile, dovresti provarci. Siamo così fortunati che possiamo lavorare con avvocati specializzati in brevetti... sono bravissimi a trovare angoli che rendano le nostre idee brevettabili. Sono stato elettrizzato dal fatto che Dwight e John abbiano vinto l'High Five Award 2020".

A Clay piace il suo coinvolgimento nel comitato dei brevetti perché "la gente di SAS sta risolvendo molti bei problemi e io ho dato un'occhiata da vicino a molti di loro".
Ma non è tutto divertimento e giochi. "Una manciata di volte ho persino dato la cattiva notizia che non dovremmo perseguire la brevettazione dell'idea di un inventore perché è già in JMP da un po'!"
