Welcome to the JMP Development update for May 20, 2022!
Please note that there is a Third Weekend Maintenance (3WM) happening this weekend. In addition to the usual server shutdowns and software updates that can disrupt JMP’s scheduled processes and VMs, it’s important to know that the Defects system and Defects clients like DARTS will be officially retired this weekend. JMP should not be greatly impacted by this change since we moved important features, bugs, and suggestions to Jira last year.
I appreciate that we all worked together to make this Defects retirement milestone a non-issue for JMP. Thank you again to the Jira discussion group for helping plan for the migration and to everyone in development who reviewed old items in Defects and worked with me to migrate the ones we needed to keep. Special thanks to Audrey Shull for doing numerous Jira demos for the group, creating an error checking dashboard to help identify problematic items and updating defects-using processes, Michael Crotty for taking on moving the doc defects and updating reports, Michaeland Nicole Jones for triaging many old stat items, and Amy Stuart for her assistance migrating component details.
On a related note, since Defects will retire the update and browse clients, Defect links in migrated Jira issues will likely become defunct over the weekend. This may result in you hitting a dead link from time to time. Unfortunately, we didn’t know ahead of time which links would remain active when Defects was retired. In the Defects to Jira migration process, I included a comment with a link back to the original defect and appended the defectID to the Jira issue title. It should still be possible to look up that defectID with HTML search tools (see next paragraph for details). Rest assured, we moved the important stuff from defects (links, attachments) so you should not need to revisit those original pages often. If you happen to hit a dead link, please feel free to delete it or update it.
You may be wondering how to access defect information after the retirement of the Defects system. According to this FAQ page from the SAS R&D DevOps team, you will be able to access DEFECTS Searchable Text Pages from InsideSAS.com. Simply paste a defectID or other search query into this search tool: https://search.unx.sas.com/defects?search-collection=defects&q=&filters= and use the checkbox filters on the left side of the page to narrow your search results. Another option is to use this table of JMP defects saved in Perforce to search or create subsets: //depot/main/test/Utilities/DefectsDashboard/All JMP defects.jmp
In non-Defect system related news, congratulations go out this week to Ernest Pasour, Clay Barker and Paris Faison on the occasion of their patent being issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office! The patent titled System and Methods for Interactive Text Regression Model Building was issued on 2022-05-17 as U.S. Patent No. 11,334,809 and has been uploaded to the Sharepoint site: Issued Patents.
Finally, JMP welcomes 11 summer interns this week working with many different groups in our company. Local and remote interns attended Internpalooza on the SAS campus this week and were introduced to JMP courtesy of Audrey. See this introductory post from Audrey on Inside JMP to learn a little more about our interns and where they are working. We will look forward to hearing from our interns in JMP Dev presentations later in the summer. And interns, please feel free to send your updates my way each Friday!
General Announcements
- John Sall shares this tip for Mac OneDrive users: If you are on a Mac, with a OneDrive folder alias in your dock, you may encounter "The specified file is not a JMP data table". If this happens to you, you should suspect the folder alias in the Dock, which seems to frequently get corrupted; just remove the alias, find the folder in your home Documents directory (or wherever you have it), and make a new alias by dragging it to the dock.
