Welcome to the JMP Development Update for May 13, 2022!
We have signed off on JMP 17 EA8 and installers are now available for early adopters to download. Thanks to everyone who worked to get this latest EA ready to share. We have one final EA release planned for early July. I know many of you have been busy with bug triage work this week. If you fix anything that you think EA customers should know about for EA9, please add details to the Motivation and Summarysection of the corresponding feature page or let Mia know.
One final reminder - next week we will freeze changes to JMP 17 Sample Data. This is one of the many deliverables that ship with JMP 17 that the doc, L10 and tooling teams have been coordinating on as we near the end of the JMP 17 cycle. Thanks for your help responding to translator queries for deliverables already in translation. Quick responses to translator requests keep new content flowing through the process.
Congratulations go out this week to Ryan Lekivetz, Joseph Morgan, Caleb King, and Brad Jones on another patent award for the DOE group. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued their patent, “Data Set Generation for Performance Evaluation” on May 10th, 2022 as U.S. Patent No. 11,328,106. A copy of the patent has been uploaded to the Issued Patents Sharepoint site.
Thanks to Mandy Chambers for sharing that the professional growth workstream team has put together a survey on career development that they would like everyone to take 5-6 minutes to read and answer. They will be using this feedback to better understand what folks need. A few months ago, the team posted an article called talk to us about professional development and appreciated the feedback and comments that they received as well.

Statistics
- Laura L: Added an option to the prediction profiler within several modeling platforms (Fit Least Squares, Nominal Logistic, Ordinal Logistic, Neural, Partition, Boosted Trees, Bootstrap Forest, and Generalized Regression) as well at the Graph menu profiler platform to compute Shapley Values. Added some Variability platform preferences for showing hidden columns in the Gauge R&R report. Added a general JMP preference for enabling BLAS (Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms), which was added to improve performance for some linear algebra routines in JMP 17. BLAS is enabled by default unless the user changes the platform preference. While the BLAS routines are much faster, there can be variation in the results from machine to machine. Also added a plot column differences plot to the All Pairwise Difference table in Multiple Comparisons.

- Laura C-S: Gave a JMP-SEM demo to five quantitative psychology professors who provided useful feedback for the platform. Added new data and scripts to the Academic Achievement.jmp sample data table and rounded all values to 2-decimal places. Investigated and fixed a couple of crashes that I found while preparing last week’s presentation. Preparing for our summer intern’s arrival.
- Elizabeth: Worked on providing warnings/guidance for overparameterized models in normal mixtures clustering with Clay’s assistance. Fixed a display bug with the scatterplot matrix within KMeans and Normal Mixtures clustering spotted by Luciano. Working on extrapolation control for mixed models.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Triaged issues in several WFB tracks. Ernest reworked Hide Tables and Dirty Workflows which uncovered a few new crashes. My Discovery paper was accepted and I will demo Workflow builder in mid-June. Focusing on introducing the basics and building a few good examples of workflows, showing different ways to use it (i.e. archiving things you did, cleaning up tables brought in from different forms, and maybe adding to a workflow you have and building on that). Icons and buttons have been changed due to Bryan Fricke recommendations. Features are coming together! In the midst of that, trying to stay on top of other things – Action recording, Recode, tabulate, and all other things with Data tables!

- Nick H: Pushed an initial CL for the conversion of certain C++ unit tests to baseline tests in the JSL Unit Test stream. Also added some unit tests for JMP Search which are now running cleanly. Evan and I will surely be making changes and additions to these as JMP Search evolves. Working on some new functionality for the JSL Unit Test Runner that would allow users to create a custom of list of tests that would be preloaded when the GUI is opened or could be used as a custom filter. Keeping up with Jira verifications and responses to EA tracks.
- Hunter: Completed JMP 17 EA 8 validation testing, opened JMP-12387 for crash encountered with reliability report opened from session script or project and open JMP-12434 where JMP Search Window on Mac does not return some sample data files, worked with Dave M. on issue with JMP Profiler GUI in Excel, and defect verification.

- Xan: Updated LineSeg and PolySeg to not draw hidden points, when the points are assigned to row states. Details are in Confluence here: Hidden and Missing Points in Lines and Areas.
- Sibusiso: Working on issues involving GB Mosaic hover labels, and on how to enable Hierbox placement options through a jsl script. I also started the STIPS course.
DOE
- Brad: Reviewed two research papers - one for Technometrics and another for Quality & Reliability International
- Peng: Continue to refine my work on SendToEmbeddedScriptable, the general solution of recording and restoring embedded scriptable objects and platforms. Find a non-intrusive way to subclass Profiler and bind with predictor for customized behavior, with immediate applications in Profilers for Bayesian results and SendToEmbeddedScriptable work. Untangles source code dependencies on “reliaUtilGUI.h” and “fitRegularized.h”. Before the change, a touch on “reliaUtilGUI.h” and “fitRegularized.h” will trigger a recompilation of 150+ and 100+ Cpp files respectively. After the decoupling, the numbers are down to 40~ and 10~. That should be a significant improvement for productivity to me and Clay. Fixed bugs JMP-12386: Hidden and Excluded rows are included in the analysis, JMP-12391: Inconsistency when reporting estimates in Cause Summary vs in Posterior Estimates, and JMP-9942: S1506201: Life distribution preference for interval type does not apply as expected.
- Joseph: Continued work on Easy DOE, mostly miscellaneous bug fixing work. Many, many thanks to Jim Borek (trying to help me late into the night) and Chris Humphrey for helping me to resolve Perforce/P4Merge issues. If you are on macOS Monterey you may need to upgrade to the latest P4Merge otherwise you may not be able to “diff” or “resolve” files.
- Ryan L: Continued work on 17.0 tickets, looking at possible topics for ISSRE 2022.
Host
- John Schroedl: Worked with Jacob and debugged BLAS-related numeric issue on some CPUs resulting in an update to OpenBLAS version 0.3.20. Thanks to Bob, Jim and Dave B. for quick updates due to DLL changes. Consulted on BLAS preference change. Helped Aaron with a WPF command routing issue which affected copy/paste in the browser control. Looked into TOTD focus rect issue.
- Michael H: Removed the remaining 1,000 or so references to OwnerOfArrayOf, replacing them with std::vector. UBSAN automated testing is now up and running. Consulted with Jim Borek to streamline all debug test runs (ASAN, LEAKS, UBSAN, D) to exclude stress tests and reduce timeout to 30 minutes, in order to reduce the turnaround time for each run.
- Daniel Powell: Audrey, Nan and I are finishing up testing for the production check for updates server. This is the last step before working with SAS IT on an external release!
HTML5
- John Powell: Participated in a Managers Virtual Coaching Session. Attended several of Josh’s knowledge transfer sessions. Reassigned Josh’s components and Jira items to HTML5 team members. Triaged and refined JMPHTML backlog. Investigated performance metrics strings remaining in English when switching JMP Live display language (WEBJMP-5152). Discussed font size customization with Michael H. and Bryan F. Fixed a problem reporting the sum of categories in marker tooltips JMPHTML-1121
- Paul S: Working with Josh and our team to get as much knowledge from him as possible. This is ending with me researching the way our Javascript calculations differs from the JMP code when it comes to Missing, (-)Infinity, and NaN and how that impacts our calculations when we are doing profilers.
- Mayowa: Fixed bug with grouped parallel plot axis labels in html(JMPHTML-1289), fixed bug with fixed tooltip tag lines in html (JMPHTML-1467), attended knowledge sharing sessions by Josh Markwordt, familiarizing myself with the code for GStream and Mosaic segment
- Praveena: Continued with knowledge transfer sessions with Josh Markwordt and the team. Started looking into S1582600: Remove port of calculating area points in favor of using precalculated points for drawing areas.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Finished up enforcement of unique package titles within a space / folder. This week it was resolving non-unique titles when moving packages around and resolving pre-existing non-unique package titles via database migration. Cautiously optimistic that I'm now in bug-fixing mode for 17.0. Fixed a handful of small bugs touching various features.
- Aaron: Updated Download as Project on JMP Live to work nicely with hierarchical folders. (This is doubly awesome when used via the new Open in JMP button that Chris Humphrey built). Triaging remaining 17.0 bugs.
- Michael G: Front-end work for “Open in JMP” from a report, data, or folder view in JMP Live. Support reassigning data for a report. Lots of small feature requests across spaces, publishing, etc. Bug fixes.
