The College of Chemistry is in the second year of a new master’s program in bioprocess engineering. Its instructors and advisers are scientists and engineers from many San Francisco Bay Area companies such as Amyris, Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Genentech/Roche, Lilly and Lawrence Berkeley Labs.
JMP has been incorporated into the program as a primary tool for experimental design and analysis, process control and capability, measurement systems analysis, among other statistical techniques important in science and engineering. Kevin Potcner (@Potcner) provided a four-hour hands-on workshop to prepare the students to run their own experiments and analyze the resulting data for the capstone course. The overwhelmingly positive response from the faculty and students resulted in the integration of STIPS and an invitation to the Academic Team to formally participate in this program by providing DOE workshops for each new cohort.

The Wright Center for Photovoltaic Innovation and Commercialization (PVIC) at the University of Toledo requested a workshop after UT purchased a campus-wide license. Twenty-two professors, researchers and graduate students joined for an introduction to JMP as well as special topics including DOE and data mining. Ross Metusalem (@rossmetusalem) mentioned that they are particularly eager to leverage DOE in their teaching and research of more efficient solar cell technologies.
Pany Allen (@pany_allen) and Chuck London (@chuck_london) report that the Americas Academic Team closed 17 new Academic Suites in Q1, including the University of Missouri, University of Ottawa, University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley and the University of Toledo. Some notable new classroom adoptions of JMP include Model-based Systems Engineering at the University of Michigan, Smart Manufacturing at Pennsylvania State University, Probability and Statistics for Engineers at Louisiana State University and Advanced Bioprocess Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

The allocation of energy and ensuring adequate food supplies for around 9 billion humans in the year 2030 is a big challenge for global agriculture. A group of researchers belonging to the Institute for Crop Sciences and Resource Conservation is using JMP Pro to create robust models for evaluation of hyperspectral data and analyze their correlation/relationship to plant properties (e.g., ingredients, growth, yield) under the environmental factors (e.g., light) and plant variety, with the goal of better understanding the components affecting global climate and food security. The university obtained an Academic Suite for this work and to show students the statistical tools to conceive new analytical models.

Established in 1963, KFUPM is considered the most prestigious university in the Arab world and offers renowned academic programs focused on engineering, sciences, computer sciences, business and management. Driven by an interest among faculty teaching in the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences, with assistance from Paolo Chiappa (@paolo_chiappa) and Volker Kraft (@volker_kraft) to highlight JMP's ease of use and problem-solving capabilities, KFUPM rated JMP Pro as the best software for teaching design of experiments and data-driven decision making and acquired a campus-wide Academic Suite license.

Public Clinical Statistics Workshops. In China, Clare Zhang (@Clare) and Juliana Zhao (@JulianaZhou) are running an open-to-the-public series of clinical statistics workshops focused on doctors, medical school students and medical workers. These 30-minute, once-a-month sessions began last month and will continue through December. About 90 people registered for the first session which covered basic and widely used features in medical research. Attendees, who were mostly new users, were amazed by the power of JMP. Clare and Juliana are working to open a wider medical school market for JMP and JMP Pro within China.

The JMP Academic Team in China is providing two engineering statistics workshops the first of which was offered on March 15 and the second will be on April 26. Over 70 attendees from a variety of engineering departments were exposed to many basic skills and JMP foundations in the first session. The second session will use case studies for practical problem solving and presentation skills.
Murali (@Muralidhara) reports some important strategic wins in India. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar onboarded JMP for chemical engineering where they will be teaching a DOE course. In Q1, top private university system Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham became the first in India to secure a system-wide Academic Suite. The license will cover four campuses where JMP will be used in teaching within the pharmacy, chemical, agriculture and management sciences departments.
