Welcome to the JMP Development Update for April 8, 2022!
We are about a month from our freeze date for JMP 17 EA8 on 5/6/22. We will have one final EA freeze on 7/6/22 for JMP 17 EA9 and will reach JMP 17 Code Freeze on 7/20/22. Thanks to all of you who have been updating your feature pages in Confluence and checking the boxes for feature readiness details this week. These pages are more important than ever as technical enablement and product management prepare training and informational materials in advance of the JMP 17 launch.
This week, Sara Doudt from the product management team published this article for Inside JMP on the JMP Taxonony Initiative. This project aims to create a common classification scheme that can be applied to many categories of items, from customer-facing materials to internal training deliverables to product management and development initiatives. Sara asks that you please take a minute to read through this article and feel free to add a comment to share how you could use this information in your role.
Thanks very much to Mac host developer Michael Hecht for presenting on special UBSAN builds for finding undefined behaviors at this week’s dev meeting. As he promised during the demo, Michael pushed an initial set of changes to resolve some of the issues he has uncovered so far with these special builds (591593: Undefined Behavior: safe fixes) and also changed undefined behaviors to assertion failures (591581). As his email noted this morning, “You can either review the change list in P4V, or sync and then search for these strings: UBAssert, UBNumericCast, UBSAN.” If you missed the meeting, you can find a downloaded copy of the recording here.
Finally, this week we continue to grow our JMP family! We say a warm welcome to developer Sibusiso Mabuza who started this week as a member of Xan’s Data Discovery group. And we also send congratulations to Evan McCorkle and his family on the arrival of their new baby daughter Daphne Wren McCorkle last Sunday. Evan shares that everyone is doing well and he will be out on the first half of parental leave until May. Welcome, Daphne!

System/Host Testing-Cary

- Mandy: Reported a recode issue and added a test for it. Reported a crash with New Formula > Group by that is now fixed. Tested action recorder fixes and added tests in JSL framework. Workflow builder – fixes, zip files are now saved into Project, but hoping this can be fixed so you can move the WFB out of the project if you send it to someone (JMP-11930). Wrote an Abstract for Discovery to do a paper or poster on Workflow Builder. Found a Tabulate crash with All that Dan S. is looking into. Wrote and added Goals to Performance section in Workday.
- Nick H: Bug verifications and cleaning up some newly introduced as well as some older unit test failures. Fixed an issue with the JSL Unit Test GUI related to importing text files as filters. Worked with Audrey to create a plan to eventually integrate timeouts into the Testing Dashboard as they get separated from crashes. Continuing work on some on ongoing projects that I hope to wrap up soon.
- Hunter: Responded to EA tracks, JIRA verification, opened three JIRA items for display issues opening HTML reports from the project window, and submitted feedback from JMP Search window results with JMP running in different languages.
- Mike M: Busy week with several large image diff changes. Via image diffs I: entered HTML Y-axis bug, entered Testing Dashboard images unusable on a Mac bug, fed back that Unit test fail w/ Scripting Index updates. Worked with Dan S and John Shroedl on developing my Sikuli image diff environment. Started working to port Sikuli back over to AWS (thanks, Josh for all your help on this!).
- Lisa G: Worked on verifications for configure levels and annotation/label fill bugs, entered a crash when using graphlets with treemap & applying an LDF, and entered a bug where the subset command via hover labels does not filter correctly when paired with configure levels.
- Josh L: JMP Live Jira Story and Bug verification. Focused on JMP Live JSL and control chart testing this week. Provided Hui with assistance to get the android tablet reinstalled with her id so she can enroll the device in Intune.

DOE
- Congratulations to Brad Jones on winning “Best Invited Paper” for his Discovery Summit Europe presentation “A Surprising Use of the Fit Definitive Screening Platform”!
- Caleb: Worked with Joseph to fix several bugs regarding simulating responses in MSA. I also continued work on joint research with Peter Parker from NASA.
- Joseph: Worked on reworking MSA simulation to properly support nested and crossed effects. Also, continued work on Easy DOE Profiler (i.e. Predict tab).
Host
- John Schroedl: Performance finding - I learned that std::shared_mutex is much faster than std::mutex on Windows b/c MSFT is not willing to change the std::mutex API for backward compatibility. Based on this recommendation, Evan noted a 20% speedup in the Search on Windows by changing to shared_mutex. Added Open dialog support for Workflow files. Fixed splash screen text under Japanese and pushed screens with © 2022. Pushed GPicture changes to load icons shown by Explorer/Finder for files. Fix issue with ‘Files in Directory’ and symbolic links on Mac.
- Paul N: Resolved Scatterplot3D precision issue with connect points and drop lines (JMP-11921). Made IDAT import a JMP Pro only feature (JMP-11626)
- OpenStreetMap server work:
- Success at getting JMP 16 ( with modified URL ) to load maps from Virtual Machine running new OpenStreetMap software stack.
- maps.jmp.com, a new top-level JMP domain for our map server needs. This now gives us a consistent .jmp.com URL for our mapping service needs. When the production map server replacement is complete, it will reside here. Once live, the current legacy server’s URL (jmpopnst.sas.com) will be redirected to maps.jmp.com. At present the reverse redirect is in place. For now, maps.jmp.com redirects to jmpopnst.sas.com so JMP 17.0 can be pointed to the new .jmp.com URL.
- New map server returns vibrant images, I am comparing configurations to figure out how to make the maps more muted like the current server.
- Michael H: UBSAN work.
HTML5
JMP Live
- Aurora: Finished gathering requirements for Publishing Data (by itself). 90% done on the server-side code for that feature as well. Finished abstracts for Discovery Americas 2022.
- Michael G: Isolated Publish on Client into its own “app” to make it leaner. Filter data posts to selected space for publish on client. Created isolated error and not found pages for publish on client. Removed data options for replace. Various bug fixes.
- Josh M: Worked on various JMP Live issues including
- WEBJMP-4940: Add translated strings for supported format names
- WEBJMP-4949: Make data table column sidebar use infinite scrolling wrapping paging
- WEBJMP-4961: There is a big blank block under Columns in Data View page
- WEBJMP-4909: Filtering on modeling type isn't responding properly
- WEBJMP-4194: Handle auth token expiration better in data table viewer (triaged this one and found it has been resolved)
Statistics
- Jianfeng: Focusing on fixing bugs and polishing new features. Added Bland-Altman Analysis in matched pairs platform to complete the features of Passing-Bablok regression.

- Peng: Working with Bill Meeker on issues that he found or suggested: putting two-sided interval columns under a merged column title (JMP-11655), Hazard function profile shows sign of instability (JMP-11816), and submitted a joint abstract on the new platform to the Discovery conference. Continued polishing repeated measures degradation and addressed other miscellaneous issues recently surfaced.
- John Sall: The Design Space Profiler now supports Locked X factors when specified in the Profiler it is called from. It is important when you are considering X limits on only a subset of the factors. (JMP-11676) The Profiler has a new command “Hide Y Variables” to allow a subset of the responses to be visible. (JMP-5590)
- Laura C-S: Updated the SEM Feature page by adding applied examples to each new feature. Continued searching for data to demo multiple-group analysis (MGA). Started doing analyses and preparing JMP Dev presentation for MGA.
- Elizabeth: Updating GLMM feature Confluence page with examples now that sample data has been added. Working on a degrees of freedom issue with inverse prediction in Mixed. Fixed a couple small bugs in GLMM.
