March 7, 2024 UPDATE: In the US, registration for Mastering (and Developer Tutorial) webinars is handled in the Community. jmp.com/mastering includes links to:
Last year, we set up global redirects that showed the Mastering JMP local Mastering JMP live webinar list to people who typed jmp.com/mastering. Not all countries have a Mastering page or local offerings, so I asked Aaron Kennedy @Aaron_Kennedy to clarify the actions and answer some questions for me.
Aaron wrote:
This vanity URL for Mastering JMP was set up as a Global Geo-Redirect…
https://www.jmp.com/mastering
That means that when a user clicks the link, a call is made to check the user’s geo IP location. If a page exists in AEM that matches the geo locale of the user, then our servers will serve up that local page. Otherwise, the default version is served. In this case, the en_us version of the Mastering overview page has been designated as the default.
Global geo-redirects only work with URLs that are an identical match of the default page (except for the four letter language/country code (e.g. en_us for our US site or fr_fr for our French site)). So, to reiterate… when a global geo-redirect gets called, the server will check the geo IP location of the visitor. If a version of the page exists for that geo location, the local version of the page will get served. Otherwise, the default version of the page will get served (US version, in this case).
1) Does the jmp.com/mastering magic work?
Yes… for geo IP locations where a local version of the page exists. Otherwise, the US version will get served.
2) If it works, can you give me a list of sites for which it works?
Yes. Currently for these locations:
3) Can you confirm it works for at least this list… Italy, France, Germany UK, Canada?
Yes. As notated above, it should work for all those locations.
4) And, what happens in…?
- Belgium – redirects to local en_be page
- Netherlands – redirects to local en_nl page
- Denmark – redirects to local en_dk page
- Switzlerland – redirects to local en_ch page
- Spain – redirects to default (US) page
- China – redirects to Chinese Webinars listing page (someone set that up at some point)
- Japan – redirects to default (US) page
- Other countries that have no Mastering page - redirects to default (US) page
- Countries that don’t have a site on jmp.com - redirects to default (US) page
