Panel Data Analysis

As an extension to Time Series Analysis, Panel data analysis would add power to JMP users (Especially Academic).

Panel data analysis is extensively taught in class.

Fixed and Random Effect regression along with Hausman test capability.

This is a feature addition request from Multiple Academic Customers who are using JMP in their classroom.

Thank you for posting. Curious if Mixed in Pro can be used for this (with the exception for the Hausman test)?

My initial take on this is that I think there is a very limited use case for this. Panel Data analysis is a type of single response or multivariate response multivariate longitudinal time series analysis. It is commonly used in econometric modeling, but probably not very much in our target industry groups.

SAS has a PROC PANEL and PROC TSCSREG procedures that do this.

Proc MIXED and PROC GLIMMIX can also be used to do this type of analysis and give essentially the same answer. Most of the time, panel data analysis problems can be formulated a mixed model or generalized linear mixed model. (see 22114 - Analyzing unbalanced panel data using PROC PANEL or PROC TSCSREG for instance).  Based on that, using the Mixed Model or GLMixed Platform in JMP Pro may meet the users needs.  

A Jira search does not show any previous work on feature requests for Panel Data Analysis.

Murali is planning to make this into an extension on the Marketplace. I’ve discussed with Elizabeth Claassen to make sure she is aware and has no concerns. She is fine moving forward with making an extension for panel data analysis. The Jira in the PM space is closed, but a new one will need to be created in the JMP Marketplace space requesting the extension.
