Welcome to the JMP Development Update for February 25, 2022!
Thanks for all the help reviewing open JMP 17 Story items in Jira this week. Now that we have passed our JMP 17 Feature Freeze milestone, I’ve been moving items that we do not plan to address in this release into 18.0:OPEN. In some cases, developers have asked me to “demote” stories into Feature Request items, which I’m glad to help you do if needed. If you have not looked at your remaining Story items open in 17, please do so and let me know which ones need to stay open in 17 and which can be moved out of the track.
Also, please send Susan Conaghan any ideas you might have for new Tips of the Day for JMP 17. You can put the details in https://rndjira.sas.com/browse/JMPDOC-1386.
Thanks to HTML5 team manager John Powell for sharing the great news that developer Paul Spychala has accepted an offer to join the HTML5 team starting on March 16th. Paul and his father ran their own company, VisiScience, which developed software used in biological simulations. Paul received a degree in Computer Science from NC State. We’ll look forward to welcoming Paul soon!
Thanks to Drew Foglia of the JMP Life Sciences team for demoing VSCode at the JMP Dev meeting yesterday. If you missed the meeting, you can see a recording here. The life sciences team has recently switched to this editor for their JSL script development work for JMP Clinical and have found it to be an excellent tool.
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing the details on Beta/Crash/Telemetry files for the last 2 weeks with crashes selected.

Host
- Worked on JMP-6770 for Anaconda Python module Tensorflow. To properly call Anaconda Python, and especially witin an Anaconda venv, requires using the Path() and Python Sys Path() arguments. Path having the user’s path to the python DLL within the desired virtual environment AND the sys.path values appropriate for that virtual environment when the environment is activated. c:\...\blah> conda activate myVenv
Python Init ( Path(“…/python3x.dll”), Python Sys Path({ “”, …. } ) )
Given the right incantation of Python Init() parameters this works as designed.
- Last Friday, Requested encryption approval from Rachel Smith, for DES encryption for support of v1 IDAT files. Heard back that she is coordinating with the export compliance support to begin looking at this for us.
- BlackDuck scanning revealed issue with Jar for SAS 9.3. SAS has officially stated it will not be fixing 9.3, so we now need to remove 9.3 support from JMP 17.0, and If we were to make a 16.2.1 or 16.3, 9.3 support would need to be removed there as well. Attended Shaun Lambs’ SAS App security meeting.
- Pushed update to OpenGL Math library ( Portable/h/glm ). BlackDuck indicated we had an older version, so it has now been updated to current.
- John Schroedl: Hover tips were wrong for some report tables b/c tip was located using binary search zlkupJS which is not correct when running non-English and searching an English-sorted list. Fixing drag/drop feedback UI issue in projects. Pushed getPixelsRaw, setPixelsRaw functions. Allow portable context menu to show for combobox.
Note from Shannon
As I shared in this morning’s call for updates, this article in the Guardian shared some details about Xan’s Wordle start word programming project. I noticed later in the morning that Arati interviewed Xan about the project on the JMP blog here.
(Don’t worry if you’re not playing Wordle. You can be in the control group! Hope you have a great weekend!)
