Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataHi all,
I have a potential JMP Pro customer from a global biopharmaceutical company.
One of his interests is to perform spectral analysis of PAT data.
I would like to ask if anyone can share spectral analysis experiences using JMP/JMP Pro of PAT data?
Besides the customer also being interested in Batch Evolution Model (BEM), I am not sure if BEM can be demoed in JMP/JMP Pro.
Please help and thanks in advance.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Data@Phil_Kay Thanks for the detailed explanation with regards to both PAT and BEM, this does paint a better picture for me before meeting with my customer again. I will try to come back and provide more insight into spectral analysis in Biopharma, what analytics requirements they are looking for and how much JMP/JMP Pro can fulfill some if not all of their requirements.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataThanks @stan_koprowski for the link and sharing, indeed I came across the same site when searching about BEM, in fact, I found most analytics keywords from my customer might be coming from Sartorius blog (SIMCA).
The Orthogonal PLS part is something not available yet in JMP - however, there is a JMP wishlist item about it.
I will try to understand what the customer really wants to achieve and perhaps come back here to share more information.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataThanks very much for the background @Phil_Kay . This will come in handy for me in the future.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataAs the others have already stated and shared their experiences in this area, it is important to note that JMP has capabilities to provide value to customers across the analytic workflow within this space. A quick search does show that JMP plays well in the without having dedicated platforms specific to BEM.
Batch process analytics
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataAnd the term "batch evolution model", BEM, looks like it was invented by the people at SIMCA for one of their capabilities. I have seen customers ask our Development team about this before. I don't have a good answer for how this might be done in JMP or JMP Pro. Certainly, we don't have a dedicated platform for it.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataHi @lkimhui ,
PAT using online spectroscopy is something that I was involved in when I worked in industry.
PAT is Process Analytical Technologies. It can mean different things. But mostly it means replacing off-line QC testing with on-line measurements (most commonly spectroscopy) and data analytics. Instead of determining product quality by testing samples of the end product in the QC lab, you build models from on-line data that can tell you about the quality. In addition, these models might help you to control the process and intervene during the process to prevent quality problems.
The PAT community is quite small but very passionate. And they are very passionate about the software tools that they use.
Back then I had JMP and that enabled me to do some of the analysis (PCA, PLS). But you really needed other dedicated PAT tools like Unscrambler, SIMCA, or PLS_Toolbox. This is mainly because of the online/real-time aspect.
In the years since, JMP Pro has added more features that are useful for PAT. And JMP Live might be a way to deal with the real-time aspect (as long as real-time does not mean updates every second!). However, the dedicated tools are probably still going to be preferred by someone that is serious about PAT.
CPACT is an organisation dedicated to PAT. I worked with them in the chemical industry and we (JMP) have sponsored and attended some of their events in the past (without much return). That might be a good place to find out more. I'm also happy to chat if it would help.
Cheers,
Phil
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataI don't have any experience with spectral analysis in Pharma per se, but I did spend many years in my early career in Acoustics and Vibrations. Spectral analysis is quite common there, and I assume that once a pharma company has time-series (or spatial) data, that the spectral analysis is essentially the same. (True?)
As you know, JMP has a spectral analysis function in the Time Series platform. It works well for what it does, but (given my background) I found it somewhat lacking in function. So back in 2014 (before I joined JMP), I wrote a Discovery Summit paper about a Spectral Analysis script that I developed. You can find it here. It greatly extends the spectral analysis functionality, and would be a benefit to those in the Acoustics and Vibrations world. I hope it helps in Bio as well.
Please feel free to share this with your customer. I would also be happy to spend some time with you/your customer to understand their needs and see if this script would help them.
Good luck!
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataThanks @Mark_Bailey for your quick response.
Yes, I am aware of this blog and a series of spectra analysis blogs by @Bill_Worley and Jeremy including spectra tools add-in, spectral data pre-processing, fde & fdoe for spectra data etc.
As I am not sure how similar PAT Spectral Analysis vs Chemical/Petrochemical Spectral Analysis is, hence I would like to see if anyone has any similar exposure to biopharma spectral analysis.
Re: Spectral Analysis of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) DataHave been following Bill Worley's series of blog posts?
