JMP for Inventory / Supply Chain AnalysisAnybody know of a customer who used JMP for analyses related to inventory and/or supply chain management? A customer asked me, I don't have any more details,
Re: JMP for Inventory / Supply Chain AnalysisVeronica Heber, Cummins, presented the paper: "Supplier Recovery Claim Automation" at Discovery. This paper shows using the JMP analytic workflow include data access with Query Builder and mass customization/scripting with a customized add-in to approach the problem.
@Phil_Kay presented a talk recently on making processes robust to supplier variation, which is something that certainly is on a lot of organization's minds right now with having to meet specs and potentially swap out different raw material suppliers. Unfortunately the link to the event from this page is no longer working. But I believe this is in the TRL.
I think @Bill_Worley's presentation: "Designing Experiments to Optimize Manufacturing Materials Selection" (and Silvio Miccio's presentations from Discovery may also be relevant here.
I guess it depends on the problem they are trying to solve. From your ask, perhaps the Cummins example is most appropriate, but also potentially some of the reliability tools for forecasting (stock at risk) might be also relevant, and of course JMP Live for sharing dashboards that update regularly for analytical dashboards related to inventory pulling from various data sources could shown.
Re: JMP for Inventory / Supply Chain AnalysisLike @Daniel_Valente says, it is hard to know what aspect of inventory / supply chain management they might have a problem with. It could just be that they are wondering how they can reduce costs due to holding too much inventory. Which products / product lines / locations are responsible for most inventory? How long are we storing product in inventory by product / product line / location? I remember a colleague doing something similar when I was working in the chemical industry. It was really basic visualisation and statistical summaries stuff just to show how much we had in inventory, how much it was costing, and where we should look to make improvements.
It would definitely be worth looking in the TRL searching on "supply chain".
Re: JMP for Inventory / Supply Chain AnalysisOn-Semiconductor has a spattering of JMP users on the supply chain management side of the business. They have also attended several JMP Pro demos as there are Python wielding data scientists on the team as well. My former company, US Synthetic, used and likely still uses JMP for lead time and on time delivery forecasting as well as visualizing shelf quantities of material and product over time. Supply chain and production data were/are used in these analyses. They also use Made2Manage ERP (enterprise and resource planning) software and SQL for analysis.
Other supply chain folks I have spoken with tend to leverage some of the analytical capabilities of ERP systems like SAP. We have spoken with some people who pull data from SAP and analyze it in JMP. If I can think of any of their names I will send them to you.
If you think about ERP systems as method of supporting a companies objective to deliver the right product on time at the right quantity and price repeatedly, it is easy to imagine many places where JMP could fit in.
Re: JMP for Inventory / Supply Chain AnalysisA little late but I recently saw an advertisement on LinkedIn from Minitab for their Supply Chain Module. I think they have a webinar or two for it so it might be interesting to watch to see what types of analysis they are are doing.
