Welcome to the JMP Development Update for February 18, 2022!
Please respond to Maanasa’s Meet the Experts survey for Discovery Europe. The dates for Meet the Experts are March 10th, 22nd and 24th and the sessions will run from 7:30-11:00am. Please use this form to indicate your availability by Thursday, February 24thand list topics you could cover with our customers.
We have now reached our JMP 17.0 Feature Freeze milestone. If you have features that are still changing or if you plan to continue to update strings and make changes requiring significant tester or writer attention, please add your feature to the JMP 17 Late Features page in Confluence. You should copy the template table and fill it in with details of the potential impact to downstream teams.
Also, please review and update feature pages for work that you are involved in developing and testing. Please pay special attention to the boxes on the Feature Readiness checklist at the end of the pages and check them off as you reach those milestones.
Thanks very much to Evan McCorkle for presenting on the new JMP 17 search feature at this week’s JMP Dev meeting. If you missed the meeting, you can find the recording in SharePoint here or here in my public folder. You can find the search feature by clicking Help > Search or using the shortcut “Control+, ” on Windows. As he indicated in the meeting, Evan is very interested in having internal users try out the search and rate the results you see in an effort to improve search relevance. Please let me know if you want to present at a future session!
Thanks very much to Nicole Jones for sharing the following in honor of Michael Crotty’s 15th anniversary with JMP:
Please join me in congratulating Michael Crotty as he celebrates his 15th JMP Anniversary! For Michael it is truly happy JMP Anniversary – Michael started his full-time career with JMP and we are appreciative that he continues to be a part of JMP Statistical Discovery LLC.
Michael started his career in JMP as a Statistical Tester on Feb. 13, 2007. As a tester, Michael supported various Multivariate platforms as well as Reliability and Survival platforms. Michael’s testing of the Bootstrap feature lead to a series of blog posts that received lots of positive feedback both internally and externally. Michael was also very instrumental in the early adoption of the JSL unit testing framework and the use of covering arrays.
Years later, Michael joined the documentation team, where he provided statistical content in the form of PDFs and online help. In addition to providing statistical content, Michael has been involved in revamping the entries for statistical platforms in the Scripting Index, writes scripts to create the book reports that the writers use to manage their work and was the only one to review and edit developer strings for many years. As the documentation team lead, Michael has serves as an excellent advocate communicating the needs of his team, mentoring interns and coordinating documentation initiatives such as rewriting old chapters and starting to automate steps of the production process. Most recently, Michael single-handedly coordinated movement of documentation defects to Jira, he recreated and tested the documentation team reports after the migration, and was an integral member of JMP’s Jira discussion group that established how the group would configure and use Jira features. He also helped triage statistical team defects in preparation for finalizing JMP’s migration to Jira at the end of 2021.
It has been a pleasure working with Michael over the years, I appreciate his willingness to work on initiatives to improve our processes for both Testing and Documentation. In addition to his daily work, Michael has also been a regular presenter at JSM and JMP Discovery Conferences over the years and is the developer and maintainer of the Imbalanced Classification JMP Add-In.
Thanks Michael and Happy JMP Anniversary!

Data Discovery
- Dan S: More work on session file scripts. Added support for private report windows, which can be several times faster than visible/invisible reports in situations where a platform is created for temporary use (extract report, create picture) and immediately closed. Using the JMP doc example for Invisible reports we see a 5x speedup:

- Dave B: Fixed histseg and treemap tooltip positions when rows hidden/excluded or frame size changes, added an option to not show missing values in NumberColBox, added extra user information in addition to perforce ID to jmprunner messages.
- Xan: Added support for multiple summary statistics in a single Caption element for Tabular Data in GB feature.
- Evan: Working on improving CJK support in JMP Search.
DOE
- Brad: Working on a review for a Technometrics paper. Doing a DOE research project with Dibyen Majumdar (University of Illinois - Chicago) and Ryan Lekivetz. Working with Joseph and Mark on Easy DOE.
- Joseph: Worked on the Report tab implementation for Easy DOE and also refined the Guided Analyze tab functionality.
Host
- Paul: Working on the WMS portion of the Open Street Map server. Helped Russ get Illumina IDAT file supported on the Mac, and tested out additions to our decryption routines to handle the encrypted v1 file format. The unencrypted V3 format should now be supported and we are waiting on Legal approval to change a compile time #define that will enable the DES decryption code, and v1 file support. Troubleshooting/investigating issues with reports on activations and matching that up against sales force data.
- John Schroedl: Pushed Windows implementation of more direct pixel access via GPicture::getPixelsRaw, setPixelsRaw, etc. (JMP-953). Crash investigations. Visual Studio help. Look into some static analysis issues. Git in 4 weeks, week 3.
- Michael H: Got MATLAB working on Mac without the need to disable System Integrity Protection.
HTML5
- John Powell: Prepared for sprint review meeting (spoiler alert: 68 Jira items done in Sprint 7!) Adjusted the Interactive HTML JMP Live client code to accommodate JMP Live changes causing report updates to fail WEBJMP-4652. Started investigating Interactive HTML accessibility compliance issues mentioned in the report found here.
- Mayowa: Fixed bug with Parallel plot axis for categorical variables which was causing a mismatch between parallel plots in JMP and Interactive HTML (JMPHTML-1233, JMPHTML-1323). JMP now supports setting the hover label font size in preferences, made changes to support it in Interactive HTML (JMPHMTL-1138).
JMP Live
- Michael G: Whitebox testing for Publish on Client. Various bug fixes. Modified routing on space page to retain folder context between file and report views. Dynamically size POC pages to fit in the JMP Dialog.
- Aurora: Publish on Client bug fixes. Continued discussion on how best to support Data Options in UI and JSL. Completed the prep work for adding the new access type "data administrator". Stop users from manually updating data tables that are configured to be refreshable. Whitebox testing.
Note from Shannon
Hope you all have a great weekend! This seems like an application where you’d really want to strive for backward compatibility!
