See how to:
- Uncover relationships visually
- Use Columns Viewer and Columns View Selector to see summary statistics
- See Distributions for selected subsets
- Use Local Data Filter to view Distributions for
data of interest
- Use Local Data Filter animation to convert/extract data from columns interactively
- Save data subsets to table
- Use Missing Data Pattern and side-by-side data comparisons to identify missing data
- Use Name Selection in Column to create a new column for data uncovered during exploration
- Examine patterns using Bubble Plots and background maps
- Add background maps to Bubble Plots
- Segment clusters on maps to explore geographic relationships
- Use Tabulate to summarize data
- Use Local Data Filter to organize and summarize data
- Delve into analysis of uncovered patterns
- Use Table Summary, formulas and groups to reorganize data
- Use Bubble Plots and animations to interpret patterns over time

Questions from the session answered by Mark Zwald @mzwald and Nick Shelton @nick_shelton
Q: How do you access column view selector?
A: You can access column viewer from the Column menu.
Q: Does "recode" create a new column?
A: You can have it create a new column or have it recode in the existing column.
Q: When do I see Distribution Frequencies instead of Quantiles and Summary Statistics?
A: Frequencies are shown for columns with categorical modeling types, either nominal (red bars) or ordinal (green bars). Continuous data (blue triangles) shows the quantiles and summary statistics.
Q: If replacing the existing column during recode, can i reverse it back later?
A: You can undo the recode to get back the existing values. In general, it's good practice to make a new column so that you preserve the original values.
Q: Does LOCAL data filter mean it's only filtering in the window and not doing anything to the underlying data table?
A: Yes
Q: Is there a way to keep range of graphs fixed during filter animation?
A: Yes, from the red triangle menu in graph builder, select the "Lock Scales" option.
Q: While looking month-by month, how can we freeze the y-axes on the histograms, so they stay on the same scale? That would make it easier to see month-to-month variations.
A: Right click on the histogram axis and select "Save to Column Property". That will lock the axis range as well.
Q: Can we capture Animation effect (in Local Data Filter) in a PowerPoint?
A: In the windows version of JMP you can. Select animation from the red triangle of the data filter. Click the record button in the Local Data Filter, turn on the filter animation, then click stop and then save the result as a .gif file. If you insert that .gif into PPT, it will animate when you present the slide.
Accessing Animation From Data Filter Red Triangle
Using Animation Controls
Q: Can you export animations?
A: Yes, you can record the animation any place you see the control and save it as a .gif file
Q: What do the data points above the box plots represent?
A: The point outside the box whiskers represent potential outliers based on an interquartile distance measurement.
Q: On Bubble Plot, what does the size of bubble represents?
A: You can specify what the bubble size represents by the column you put in the Sizes role when you launch the platform. That will control the bubble sizes.
Q: What kind of data is well suited for a bubble plot besides geographic data?
A: Bubble plots are sometimes used when you want to animate scatter plot by another variable (typically time). Here is an example where you are looking at data over time and you can add trail lines to give you even more information.
Q: Can I drill into data on Bubble Plots?
A: Yes. Here is an example drilling into data from a Bubble Plot on a background map.
