“Each February, National Black History Month serves as both a celebration and a powerful reminder that Black history is American history, Black culture is American culture, and Black stories are essential to the ongoing story of America — our faults, our struggles, our progress, and our aspirations.”
— US President’s Proclamation on National Black History Month 2022
It is imperative to reflect on the past, commit to continuous self-education and celebrate the legacies of Black Americans. In doing so, we can contribute to building a more inclusive world. In 2022, Black History Month is dedicated to the theme of Black Health and Wellness.
A month of celebration and conversation
How can you take part? One way is by joining the Black Initiatives Group (BIG) at SAS and attending its weekly meetings. BIG’s mission is to “empower Black employees to bring their full selves to work, to highlight their talents and contributions and to inspire young Black talent to pursue careers in STEM.” BIG Fridays this month provide the opportunity to join in conversation – and listening – to examine and re-imagine an inclusive, equitable future.
