It is Lunar New Year, one of the most important celebrations for many of our colleagues around the world, particularly in East and Southeast Asian countries. JMP friends are celebrating over the coming days with family, friends, food and traditions. This year is represented by the tiger, one of the 12 zodiac animals, and water, one of the five elements.
Our colleagues share traditions
Ida Rahim (@IdaRahim), Inside Sales:
“Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is always celebrated by everyone at JMP/SAS Malaysia (not all of us are Chinese descendance or Buddhist). Since I joined SAS in 2014, Lunar New Year Celebration is always amazingly fun and noisy too. We will invite Lion Mascots to dance and bless everyone in the office. Then, we will go for fancy Chinese luncheon or dinner with colleagues. We will receive 'Ang Pow' (money in a red packet) as a symbol of prosperity and a lot of wonderful gifts. Since the pandemic, there has been no more gathering but SAS Malaysia kindly arranges personal delivery of gifts. I am so thankful to be part of this wonderful company.”
Ida shared an energetic video in the comments of this page, check it out!
Nina Chan (@nina_chan), Marketing:
“We live in Germany and don't get to see dragon dances and lanterns like our relatives in Hong Kong do. But we have an elaborate meal on New Year’s Eve - roast pork belly, fish, and glutenous rice balls as dessert. The kids get red envelopes with some coins. The picture shows a card my son did last year for his kindergarten group during lockdown.”
