Did the JMP Kickoff get you excited about JMP becoming its own company? You are not alone! It is exciting news. Some employees have asked how and when they can share this information on social media.
We are not yet ready to announce this news publicly, and we ask that employees do not share it in a social media post.
But what about updating your personal social media profiles to reflect the change? Our leadership has approved you doing that, provided you follow some guidelines.
Because the vast majority of JMP staff are on LinkedIn, some of the specific actions below relate to that social media platform. But the principles underlying these guidelines apply to whichever platform you are using around the world:
Do not announce your profile changes: Before you update your LinkedIn profile, check that you have turned off “Share profile updates with your network.” Access this setting by logging into LinkedIn and clicking “Me” on the top navigation. Then select Settings & Privacy > Visibility > Share profile updates with your network. Change the setting to “No” if it is not already.
Look for ‘division’ and ‘business unit’: Check each of your social media profiles for language like “JMP is a division of SAS,” “JMP is a business unit of SAS” or “JMP software from SAS.” Remove those references and simply tell what JMP software does.
Describing JMP’s relationship to SAS: If you have a need to indicate the relationship of JMP to SAS somewhere in your profile, you may say that “JMP is a SAS company” or “JMP is a wholly owned subsidiary of SAS.”

Attributing your work experience: If you had a job role at SAS outside of JMP at some point in your career, use SAS as the company name for that role. And then create a new work experience listing for your time with JMP. Look for the JMP logo to appear beside your listing. See Diana Levey’s LinkedIn profile as an example of what to do. However, if your time at SAS has been solely within JMP, we advise that you list JMP as the company for that work experience. This page explains how to make sure you are linking correctly to a company page on LinkedIn.

Use your JMP email address: If you have listed a work email in your contact info on your profile, make sure that it is the jmp.com email address.
While you are updating your email address, ensure that your work email account is jmp.com rather than sas.com. Please start getting in the habit of using the jmp.com email address everywhere (for example, in Salesforce) because our sas.com email addresses will eventually stop working. Do not worry, you will have lots of notice before that happens!
XING profile (DACH)
If you have a profile on XING (German social platform), follow the update guidelines as above. In XING, you can access your current and past job description through your “business card” on your profile. For any questions, contact Nina Chan.
Staff outside of the US
What about JMP staff outside of the US who are still listed as part of SAS? These employees may update their personal social media profiles as well because it is a technicality that they are not yet part of JMP. Leadership does not believe there is any reason to treat non-US staff any differently in this area.
Please remember that it is not required that JMP staff change their personal social media profiles at this time. We are simply providing guidelines for those who want to do so. If you have questions about this, do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you @arati_mejdal for this invaluable info. How fun to open InsideJMP and see my smiling mug there! This is a great reminder for me to add media to my JMP job section, which I have not done yet. Go to my LinkedIn later today and my profile will be even more complete. Same for Twitter..I've got updating to do there.
