Thanks for your responses for feedback from week 1. If you have not already replied. here it is.
I thought it would be good to respond to some of the improvement ideas. Please keep this discussion going below in the comments.
Better communication about the assignment.
The homework assignment was difficult due to timezone differences. Also, the industry we were assigned has numerous use cases and success stories already written, so coming up with something unique was difficult.
Thanks. Let me know what was not clear about the assignment so that we can communicate better next time. We know that it is difficult to work across time zones and languages but it is important that we find ways to work together as a global organisation. We appreciate your efforts! We are not expecting a unique take on how JMP is used in industry. The intention is for you to explore the existing resources and create a short summary, as in the example. The most important outcome is that you have worked with your team and got to know them a little better.
I wish they went over a few min of where to find employee needed links and related websites ect... for personal book keeping. Like, pay information, health care, commission/bonus, things that you typically need in a newer hire.
I can see that this would be useful. And some people have previously put together lists of links like this one for US sales staff, which you might find useful. JMP Academy is for all job roles and all global regions, so it is impossible to maintain a list of links that would cover everything needed by everyone in the class. Please speak to your manager as this kind of information is best covered in your personal onboarding.
I personally prefer the first day welcome session to be more serious.
Thanks. We will think about that. Our intention was to find an engaging way to introduce the class to each other in an online meeting. A lot of people commented that they really enjoyed it. But I can appreciate that it would not suit everyone. Let us know any ideas you have for an alternative way to do this.
Could we have presentation file for each session if it's available.
It is a little overwhelming taking in all the new information in such a short window of time.
Yes. There is a lot to take in. Not all presentations are in the form of PowerPoint slides. In any case, the slides often do not tell you anything without the presenter's voiceover. So we will not share presentation slides. However, you can find links to recordings of all sessions in the agenda, and you should be able to find the recordings and transcripts in MS Teams as well.
Meeting in person, when it is safe again.
Absolutely! Let's hope we can do that soon.
Another response:
Less is more with respect to homework. I think many of us are perfectionists so an open-ended assignment on multiple time zones is a bit difficult to nail down. I like the opportunity for collaboration but maybe the assignment can be prefaced even more with "Let's have fun!" "Let's communicate!" instead of "This is the result that we are looking for." A big part of our culture is relaxing and allowing your authentic self to germinate/ create and that is going to compete with our own internal judgers who are making it more difficult than it needs to be. Maybe instead of an article it could be: dealers choice between an article and a couple PowerPoint slides? Not sure if that would help or just contradict the "Less is more" principle; but anyway it's just some feedback.
I completely agree. This is very much the spirit that we are aiming for. We need to think about how to make this clearer. Maybe we should impose a word count - I don't know?! Thanks!
