Welcome to the JMP Development Update for January 7, 2022!
I hope you all saw Bob H’s email yesterday sharing the good news that development and tech support have signed off on all JMP 16.2 deliverables! JMP and JMP Pro updaters are now available for customers to download. Full installers are planned to ship on January 18, and we will release the JMP Pro Trial, JMP Subscription and JMP Student Subscription installers to the web on that day as well.
In other release news, development and product management have decided to move the freeze dates for both EA6 and EA7 ahead one week to give us a bit more time to finalize features and hopefully drive earlier feedback. Since EA8 and EA9 are spaced out a bit more, we will not shift those dates. We will now freeze EA6 on January 21, and EA7 on March 11.
Please remember that JMP 17 Feature Freeze is coming up quickly on February 18-only a month and a half away. Please consider your remaining feature work very carefully. We will have several months of focused bug-fixing happening between feature freeze and our code freeze milestone on July 20th. Finishing feature work by Feature Freeze and allowing plenty of time for testing will improve our chances of finding and fixing critical bugs before we release JMP 17 to all customers.
This week we returned after the break to a number of important announcements. Of course, one very big one is that we are now JMP Statistical Discovery LLC! There was also Dr. Goodnight’s message about the delay of the official reopening of the SAS campus to March 1. And we celebrated some important title changes in R&D - Brian Corcoran’s promotion to Senior Director of the JMP host group and the announcement that Russ Wolfinger now has the title of Distinguished Research Fellow (an honor also previously given to Brad Jones). Audrey announced earlier in the week that JMP DevOps has officially welcomed our valued testing team in Beijing to Audrey’s JMP Host and System testing group – manager Nala Sun and testers Eric Wang, Mike Wu, Da Li and Kimi Wang. In addition, newly minted Senior Manager of Product Management Dan Valente announced the good news that Bryan Fricke is joining the product management team later this month as Senior Product Manager, UX. These were just a few of the announcements made this week recognizing promotions and title changes effective in the new year. Congratulations to all!
Thanks also to Audrey for sharing the details on an important milestone for a member of the System and Host testing group reached this week:
Congratulations to Hui Di on achieving her 20-year anniversary with SAS and JMP as of Jan 1. Hui started with SAS in 2002 with Nicole Jones, with the original intent that she would work with the Chinese translation of JMP. That quickly turned into a testing role which has expanded over the years. Hui has tested many components of JMP, including the Excel add-in, host-related functions, Add-ins, OLE automation, Citrix compatibility, Journals, Applications and Treemaps.
For the last decade, Hui’s focus has been in the HTML5 realm and includes some intersection with JMP Live. The growth and success of our company is largely dependent on having strong and capable staff members. We are glad Hui is a part of the JMP family, and we look forward to new adventures with her as part of JMP Statistical Discovery LLC.
Finally, Brian Corcoran gave me a heads up that congratulations are also in order for Justin Chilton and his fiancé Emily Morton, who are getting married tomorrow. Big congratulations to the happy couple! And of course, I expect some wedding pictures for next week’s update. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Thanks to Tonya for sharing the details about Beta/Crash/Telemetry tracks from 12/17/2021 until 1/7/2022. Crashes are selected.

JMP Development Updates
Product Management
- Mia: Working with development managers to prepare for JMP Kickoff, to be held January 18-20. During the “This is JMP” session on Jan 19, we’ll present Product Development themes and the JMP Product Roadmap, introduce the development teams, and then host a division-wide developer town hall. If you have a question you'd like to ask during the developer town hall at JMP Kickoff, please take a moment to complete this survey.
Technical Support
- Duane: First, many thanks to Hunter Weaver from my team. He has been incredibly helpful on numerous tracks (recently assisting Bobby on a long-running Monterey script issue in 7613466224, and Dave on another Mac issue in 7613462937). Hunter always goes out of his way to assist with our customer issues. Thanks so much!
- Tech Support covered the days over the holiday break, handling the few tracks that came in and being available for any emergencies (none arose). A breakdown of the track topics for the week is below. We are back up to speed now that we are in the ‘office’. The Kickoff meeting with NeuraFlash was held yesterday. They will be implementing our instance of Service Cloud in Salesforce. We will be working closely with them as we transition off of Sirius.
- Here are the TS JMP Live reports. (JMP Live 16), and here is information regarding Jira tickets opened by Tech Support.

Documentation
- Qiana: Completed the Technical Writing group Intro video. Reviewed resumes for the Senior Tech Writer role. Added JA add-ins to the JMP Community page. Began Week 1 Preparation work for JMP Academy. Working on installing a patch for the 16.2 JA and ZH translated Help.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Testing Workflow Builder UI changes and considering testing approaches. Verified DF and LDF fixes and added a new test case. Currently working on Action recording log with Save Columns, from Platforms, doing initial basic testing for each platform in preparation for sending out an email to other testers to request review and testing of their content areas.

Host
- Paul: Re-evaluating a customer reported issue doing parallel processing with Python from a JSL script. When the customer’s parallel Python code was run from a JSL script, instead of launching multiple instances of Python to process, it launched multiple copies of JMP. This is because Python is embedded within JMP. Discovered over the break that the Python multiprocessing package allows setting the executable to launch. This is the key to the solution, which has now been posted to the JMP community on the Script File Exchange. Worked with Daniel on the checksum code for setinit generation on AWS.
- Michael H: Getting JMP Statistical Discovery LLC enrolled as an Apple Developer.
- Brian C: Looking into a conversion of Confluence and Jira to Atlassian Cloud in collaboration with Audrey.

Started preparing for year-end reviews. Replied to a JMP User Community question. Published a fake James Webb Space Telescope heatmap to JMP Public.

- Praveena: Completed work on JMPHTML-946 (fix for checkbox text color in dark mode) and JMPHTML-789 (fix for tabulate subgroup indentation). Learning about Frames from Bryan Fricke and started the course work for JMP Academy due by Jan 12th.
- Bryan F: Continued to work on a paper for JMP Discovery Europe. Began participating in daily knowledge transfer sessions with Praveena by investigating/fixing issues, and also had a knowledge transfer session with John related to a marker segment fix related to the frame. Note from Shannon
Thanks to Bryan Boone for passing along a link to what he describes as a highly addictive game-Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. We have a lot of games around here but don’t have this one yet! (I see this one is made by the same company that created the card game Exploding Kittens-trust me, it’s not as bad as it sounds!)
Hope you all have a great weekend!
