Setting up pass/fail codes based on values in another column

I have a hard time with conditional formatting.  In the attached file, for example, I would like to assign pass/fail codes, 0 or 1, in column 2 depending on the value in column 1.

 

How would I set up the formula for, If Column 1 > 0.5, then Column 2 = 1, If column 1 <0.5, then column 2 = 0?

Here is the formula:

If(
	:Column 1 > 0.5, 1,
	:Column 1 < 0.5, 0
)

I would suggest that one of the 2 comparisons be changed to >= or <=, since what you specified would leave a value of exactly .5 as a missing value for the Failure column
