Welcome to the JMP Development Update for December 3, 2021!
It’s been an eventful week! Testing teams are hard at work validating installers for JMP 16.2 and reporting issues for further consideration. Thanks to all who helped investigate and triage issues found in testing this week. We’ll be working on tying up loose ends next week in advance of QA signoff. We’ll also be working towards a freeze for JMP 17 EA 5, planned to be built to match JMP 17 as of the end of the day next Friday, December 10.
There was a big office move in building A, bringing JMP TS together with the rest of Jeff’s team on the 4th floor. With the news that both Tech Support and JMP Education are joining the customer support fold, Jeff’s group will be known as JMP Customer Enablement going forward.
Several other offices were shuffled during the move, bringing recent additions to the JMP team over from other buildings on campus in preparation for returning to campus in the new year. JMP doc manager Qiana Eaglin and JMP tester Nick Holmes also moved from J to the 5th floor. Welcome to all our new additions and I hope everyone who moved has a chance to settle in to their new offices soon.
I hope you saw the JMP Division 4th Quarter Update webcast yesterday. If not, you can catch the recap article with a link to the recording on Inside JMP. The webcast had lots of interesting news about our transition to a SAS subsidiary as we move into 2022, an update on JMP 17 development, and good news about JMP revenue progress in 2021! While you’re visiting Inside JMP, you can also read this profile of JMP developer Annie Zangi, learn about how to join a workstream to focus on a JMP-wide brainstorming topic in 2022, and visit a wish list to donate to JMP’s Holiday Cheer effort this December.

Statistics
- Jianfeng: Pushed the changes for the new feature of equivalence test for two proportions (JMP-8040), which appears in contingency platform for a 2x2 case. More improvement work might be needed but the basic functionality has been completed.

- Annie: Pushed a change to improve the performance for CCB, moving all the stat computations out of measureSize routines. The majority of the improvements are seen in both large dataset scenarios and scenarios with numerous options set, as both of those previously recalculated all stats with each small setting change.

- Michael C: Reviewing open stat defects in preparation for migrating them to Jira; reviewed start of a rewrite of the Bivariate documentation.
- Colleen: Working on writing unit tests for the doc screen shots and splitting out the information in “Quality Utilities” and “Modeling Utilities” into their own chapters, since there aren’t any “Utility” menu items anymore.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Designing the UI for the Data Entry step and the Analysis step in Easy DOE with Brad and Joseph. Writing unit tests for same steps with help from Jacob. Discussing strategies for testing the transitions between Easy DOE steps with Joseph, Ryan, and Jacob. Answering questions in JMP Community.
- Jacob: Attending Leor Zolman’s c++ training course. Testing the Easy DOE Model tab and working on a unit test for the tab. Investigating potential performance issues.
Technical Support
- Duane: Lots of events for TS this week! We moved to the 4th floor in Building A and are getting accustomed to our new surroundings. It was good to see folks in person while packing and unpacking, and we even ran into several other JMP folks on the floor! In addition, we welcomed Patrick Giuliano to the team this week as our west coast support person. Many in JMP already know him from his Community contributions. He comes to us from Abbott Labs and has worked in the medical devices field for 15+ years. Besides working with his favorite software, JMP, he enjoys salsa dancing with his wife and going to the gym when possible.
- As for TS, we continue to work with customers and their JMP issues. More details can be found in our TS JMP Live reports. (JMP Live 16) Here is information regarding Jira tickets opened by Tech Support.

Development Operations
- Jim: Updated OSes and software on multiple systems. Enabled the installer build for Student Subscription. Perforce support.
- Shannon: Moved remaining DOE items to Jira. Working with Michael C and Nicole to move other sets of items ready for Jira. Conferred with Mia on feature retirement process and updated this page in Confluence with more details.
Documentation
- Qiana: Knowledge transfer with Sheila. Completed outboarding tasks for Sheila. Completed the Interviewing and Hiring certification. Began working with Janet and Christine on req for new Tech Writer.
- Susan C: Working with Qiana and Sheila on transitioning Sheila’s responsibilities before her departure. Doing the training for interviewers and keeping an eye on JMP Live progress.

Data Discovery
- Dan S: Changed Column Switcher rerun to be more like Data Filter - platform is detached from window on rerun to prevent things like scrolling. Fixed a Mac ARM double->int problem for topArgColor(). Added JWindowClass properties to specify whether journaling is allowed and property panels are supported, so we can prevent these actions in windows where it doesn't make sense. Continued work on updates to session files.
- Dave B: Working on journal/stream out problems with Graph Builder and Variability Chart, updated jmprunner to do a better job launching jmp so that $sample_data is valid even if it points to a more recent version of jmp, and fixed a problem where we were saving a .tsv file that used commas as field separators.
- Evan: Working on JMP GUI search dialog.
- Xan: Working on markup text formatting issues.
DOE
- Caleb: Continuing work on the interactive tool for setting up the nesting structure in MSA designs. Finally got some interactivity going on and looking forward to presenting it at a future Dev meeting.
- Brad: Work continuing on Stu Hunter Conference planning. Easy DOE design work.
- Joseph: Continued work on Easy DOE Analyze and Predict tabs.
Host
- Paul N: Updated libcurl in /main/ to 7.80.0 to fix issues discovered in testing. Activation on AWS is ready in anticipation of moving over from SAS hosted systems. Looking at Python issue on M1 macOS. JMP 16.2 and 17 support Python 3.10.0. Python 3.10 has native packages for numpy, pandas and matplotlib. By using 3.10 and JMP 16.2 or 17.0 customers will again have the same functionality on Mac M1 and Mac Intel. Looking at ways of removing our dependence on external packages beyond base Python. Some refactoring work in JMP’s Python code, but that’s not yet ready to push.
- John Schroedl: More cases of bad VMWare display drivers causing JMP to hang on exit. Fix is to update the VMs. Thanks to Nick Ruva for help with that. Debugged perf issues on VM tests. Diagnosed video playback failure in Trial as changed HTML. Helped with various visual studio questions.
- Michael H: Close Multiple dialog on Mac.
HTML5
- Bryan F: Attended the Effective C++ / An Effective Intro to the STL class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Since I was in class during the HTML5 Sprint 6 Review, I posted a video showing my progress. Participated in the HTML5 Sprint 6 Retrospective and Sprint 7 planning meeting. Evaluated WEBJMP-4272 which suggests making an autocomplete component a lighter color than the parent dialog and JMPHTML-1190 which involves updating our custom icons specifically for dark mode. The fix I submitted for retina display blurriness caused a regression with the ability to resize graphs in JMP Live. I developed a solution for that issue and plan to put it up for review soon.
- John Powell: Responded to a JMP User Community post about Interactive HTML limitations. Held a sprint retrospective meeting. Prepared and held our sprint review meeting. Groomed our backlog in preparation for sprint planning. Held a sprint planning meeting.
- Josh M: Preparing and giving for Sprint 6 demo. Planning for Sprint 7 and defect/story triage.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Pausing work on hierarchical folders in favor of "publish on client". Working with Chris Humphrey, Michael Goff, and Aaron Andersen to hash out the design and work toward a proof of concept. Created a method to sanitize & validate JSON payloads for various scenarios and stages of the operation. Also fixed a few unrelated bugs (JEST_SKIP_CLEANUP .env flag and control chart warning notifications related to a space).
- Michael G: Merged home page into one feed from three. Moved bookmarks into a standalone page. Pushed more updates for Publish On Client. Various bug fixes.
- Josh M: WEBJMP-3747 - Create UI for column paging/filtering in data table viewer.
