[Announcement summary]
Measurement systems are everywhere, from homes to laboratories to production sites. For example, homes have familiar scales, and laboratories use a variety of systems to measure important physical properties such as material strength. Production systems also rely on measuring quality characteristics such as the shape of machined parts.
On the other hand, the measurement system we are in contact with behaves in a variety of ways. It can be noisy, accurate, or biased. It may or may not change or destroy the sample.
Regardless of how it behaves, we have a good knowledge of measurement system noise and make informed choices about how to use the measurement system to avoid costly errors. is needed.
Looking back, in the early 90's, the Hubble Space Telescope's primary mirror was over-polished due to a measurement error. This mistake, discovered after the launch, almost destroyed the project. NASA could have saved more than $ 600 million in repair costs if it had used MSA to understand and address the causes of the variability prior to launch.
In this presentation, we will explain the points to note when applying the results of MSA by the EMP (Evaluating the Measurement Process) method developed by Dr. Donald Wheeler. In addition, we will introduce an overview of EMP and examples in home and industry, and demonstrate at JMP the classification of gauges by EMP, the accuracy of reporting, and the specification restrictions of guard bands to ensure product compatibility.
