Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby Redundancy<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />Hi,
A current JMP user has some questions about Reliability Block Diagrams in JMP Pro.
Can you:
- Generate
MIL-217 reliability calculations (mostly electronics, where you load up a list
of components in a PCB and calculate the resultant reliability based upon a
component database) - generate reliability block
diagrams which include cold standby redundancy (this is where a redundant
component does not age (or ages very slowly) until it is used
My understanding is that 1. is a database of common electrical components with pre-defined reliability models. So you could build a block diagram from a library of components without having to go through the process of specifying the reliability model for each.
My understanding of 2. is that you have redundant components in the block diagram but you somehow specify that they are not in use until the first component fails.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think either of these are possible in JMP Pro. I guess you could create your own library of components based on the information in the MIL-217 handbook.
Thanks,
Phil

Re: Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby RedundancyAs promised, here is a more comprehensive JRN for JMP RBD Standby extensions. Included are examples of how to apply Cold Standby, Warm Standby, Cold Standby with Switch and Load Sharing. Please remember that out-of-the-box, the designs are Hot, therefore you can only create Hot Standby situations. You will need to adopt a script similar to the included examples in order to incorporate these other scenarios.

Re: Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby RedundancyLeo,
Thanks for the great examples!
Uploaded the journal and files as well on the JMP User Community - JMP Technical Reference Library under:

Re: Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby RedundancyThanks so much Leo. I'll have a look and get back to you if I have questions.

Re: Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby RedundancyAttached is the basic JRN for Standy-by situations in RBD, both Warm and Cold. Please note that JMPs RBD platform nodes are considered "HOT" out-of-the-box. I will be publishing a more comprehensive version of these examples in the near future.

Re: Reliability block diagram: MIL-217 and Cold Standby RedundancyPhil,
Correct on no 1. I have a journal with examples of cold and warm standby. It involves a script defining the cold or warm standby, then import the data via non-parmetric option.
I am boarding a flight but will include later today.
