You’ve heard the news: On Jan. 1, 2022 – after 30 years as a business unit of SAS – JMP will become a wholly owned subsidiary of SAS.
Why now? Because JMP is a successful, growing, profitable business that is ready to stand on its own. As John Sall says, SAS has been a great incubator for more than 30 years, and it’s time to leave the nest.
The JMP Report will include monthly updates on our subsidiary journey. We’ll also continue to have quarterly meetings for all staff. Please attend the JMP Division Update on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 9 a.m. ET.
Be sure to add it to your calendar.
What will JMP look like in November 2022? Until JMP Pro has a Crystal Ball platform that can predict the future with 100% certainty, we will all have to be content with the following forecast.
Three months from now
JMP is starting to act like a company
- JMP will have its own HR, Finance and Legal departments. These organizations will have begun to build out capabilities around the JMP world as part of the transition away from SAS.
- A Finance Director will have joined JMP. This person will establish the JMP Finance group so that JMP’s accounting, processes, and policies are in place as part of the SAS IPO readiness processes.
- The process of migrating customer data from GIDB to Salesforce will be well underway.
- Tech Support staff will be housed in Building A.
- Corporate subscriptions will be available to all US customers.
- New hires will continue to join JMP to backfill open positions and to provide expertise for the new functions that JMP will take over from SAS.

Real progress is made on customer-facing systems
- JMP expects to have a fully functioning enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in place to handle all the functions needed to process contracts, invoicing, pricing, and product lists to keep the business running as JMP transitions away from SAS systems.
- JMP will begin to implement a customer identity system to replace the SAS Profile, which may help address many customer frustrations with the JMP trial and individual subscriptions.
- New order forms for US customers will be executed by the JMP contract lifecycle management (CLM) system. This will be a DocuSign-based system that allows digital signatures of agreements, thus greatly simplifying the ways to contract JMP.

Readiness as a standalone company
- JMP 17 will have been released to wide acclaim, while the work on JMP 18 begins.
- Corporate subscriptions will be available to all customers worldwide (except in certain countries where this type of license is not permitted).
- JMP CLM will be available for all new customer agreements (except in certain countries where use of the order form agreement is not permitted).
- JMP customer-facing systems will be fully separate from SAS around the world. JMP will be fully separate from Orion and GIDB for any new contracts. Salesforce will be the business operational nexus for customer interactions.
- JMP will have a plan to “right size” systems and processes for a ≈$200M (TSR) company.
- JMP will be ready to stand up customer-facing business systems in early 2023.
