In reality, I think there is a need for a cycle in which engineers carefully analyze data, formulate rational experimental plans based on their experience, and utilize them in practice and decision-making. In order to proceed smoothly, it is really important to improve the data analysis skills of individual engineers while mastering convenient applications such as JMP that do not interfere with work. It is not easy to disseminate activities with the understanding and approval of the organization and top management in Japan, which is profitable and result-oriented, and I think that there are many cases where grassroots activities collapse. Your efforts are really great. Please continue and develop it in the future.

[Announcement summary]
Since around 2017, Showa Denko Materials has been making company-wide efforts to incorporate statistical methods into the development of functional materials, which is our main product. The development of functional materials is an extremely complicated design optimization problem that tunes dozens of design variables and optimizes multiple objective variables, and trial and error is repeated every day to solve it.
Although statistical methods such as design of experiments are effective in reducing the burden of trial and error, it is not easy for many material researchers who have not received statistical education at universities to incorporate and use statistical methods in practice. Therefore, we focused on JMP, which is easy to use even for beginners in statistics. We have been training dual wield human resources who have both statistical skills and material knowledge centered on JMP for four years, and now many departments are raising examples of the use of statistical methods every day.
