Recently, many friends who use the JMP programming language (JMP Script Language, JSL) have consulted JMP:
"I have a lot of daily reports, is it possible to run the compiled JSL analysis program automatically?
In this way, you don't have to spend a long time in front of the computer every time you need to run the JSL program, just open the JMP program and click the customized menu. More importantly, sometimes the analysis program has a large amount of calculation and takes a long time. In order to avoid having to wait too long when the report is needed, the analysis program has to be executed in advance. "-- from Peter with a Headache
Does the above situation look familiar? In order to relieve engineers with heavy daily work, this article is to share the powerful function in JMP software - JSL automation, which helps you automate the output of analysis reports. Let’s take a look at what problems Peter, an engineer working in the semiconductor industry, has encountered recently:
Peter has a quality report that needs to be analyzed through JSL. He needs to report to the management at 8:30 every day, but the time required for JSL to run is about 1 hour. For safety reasons, he starts at 7:30 every morning. 00 needs to start the analysis, but it is too painful for Peter to arrive at the company so early (it is the same pain for the editor). Is there any way to help Peter solve this problem?
use JSL task planner
To achieve this goal, you can start the JSL analysis program by using the "task planner" that comes with the windows system. Let us analyze the steps below to give you a better understanding.
step 1 : Start the Task Scheduler
First, we need to start the "Console" ➡ "Administrative Tools" in Windows task planner ".

Figure 1: Open the JSL task planner
step 2 : Create a task and name it
After opening, click "Create Task", and give the task a name in the "Name (M)" of the General tab. Here we name it "Automatic Analysis Report".

Figure 2: Set the task and name it
step 3 : configure task start time
Configure the task start time. Click "New (N)" on the "Trigger" tab.

Figure 3: Setting task triggers
Set the start time of the task as 7:00AM every day, and click OK to complete the time setting.
If you only need to execute the task on weekdays, you can select the execution date in the "Weekly (W)" option.

Figure 4: Set trigger trigger time
step 4 : Browse and click Finish
Connection start task. Click New (N) in the Actions tab.

Figure 5: Select the pre-compiled JSL file
Select the pre-compiled JSL file through the "Browse (R)" control item, and click "OK".
At this point, when we see "Automatic Analysis Report" in the task list, it means you're done!

However, there are several points worth noting about JSL automation. A little carelessness will often make people confused and fail to achieve the expected results. First of all, friends who use laptops should pay special attention:
Question 1: There is a management restriction on "Power" in the "Conditions" setting of each task. By default, is it required to "start this task only when the computer is using AC power"?
answer:
Many friends who use the mission plan for the first time will have this problem, because they cannot perform automatic missions because they are not connected to the power supply. In order to avoid confusion, you can uncheck this option, and other condition options are also set according to the actual situation. This way you will have no worries! (Figure 7)

Second, is the setting for running JSL in JMP.
Question 2: The task starts on time, but it is found that the JSL program file is only opened every time, but it is not executed. Why is this so?
answer:
This situation is caused by JMP's improper setting of the JSL opening method, that is, every time a JSL document is opened, the program is automatically executed instead of opening the document editing window.
To solve this problem, you need to check the option "JSL script should only run but not open after selecting JSL script from the recent file list or file browser" in JMP Preferences ➡ Windows Specific, as shown in Figure 8:

In this way, the problem of JSL's regular automatic analysis is easily and happily solved.
