Recently, many friends who use JMP Script Language (JSL) consult with JMP:
"I have a lot of daily reports, can I automatically run the compiled JSL analysis program?
In this way, you don't have to spend a long time in front of the computer every time you need to run the JSL program, just open the JMP program and click on the customized menu. More importantly, sometimes the analysis program has a large amount of calculation and takes a long time. In order to avoid the need to wait too long when using the report, the analysis program has to be executed in advance. '' - From Peter with a headache
Is the above situation very familiar? In order to alleviate the heavy daily work of engineers, this article is going to share, the powerful function in JMP software-JSL automation, helps you automate the production of analysis reports. Let’s take a look at what problems Peter, an engineer working in the semiconductor industry, has encountered recently:
Peter has a quality report that needs to be analyzed through JSL. He needs to report to the management at 8:30 every day when he goes to work. However, it takes about 1 hour for JSL to run. For safety, he needs to report to the management at 7: 00 needs to start the analysis, but it is too painful for Peter to arrive at the company so early (it is the same pain for Xiaobian). Is there any way to help Peter solve this problem?
use JSL Task planner
To achieve this goal, you can start the JSL analysis program using the "Task Planning Program" that comes with the windows system. Below we analyze the steps to let you know more.
step 1 : Start the mission planner
First, we need to start the "Control Panel" ➡ "Administrative Tools" in Windows Task planner ".

Figure 1: Open the JSL task planning program
Step 2 : Create a task and name it
After opening it, click "Create Task" and give the task a name in the "Name (M)" of the General tab. Here we name it "Automatic Analysis Report".

Figure 2: Setting and naming tasks
Step 3 : Configure task start time
Configure the task start time. Click "New (N)" in the "Trigger" tab.

Figure 3: Set task trigger
Set the task start time to 7:00AM every day, click OK to complete the time setting.
If you only need to execute the task on working days, you can select the execution date in the "Weekly (W)" option.

Step 4 : Browse and click Finish
Connect to start the task. Click "New (N)" in the "Operation" tab.

Figure 5: Select the pre-compiled JSL file
Select the pre-compiled JSL file through the "Browse (R)" control item, and click "OK".
At this point, when we see the "Automatic Analysis Report" in the task list, it means that we are done!

However, there are several points worth noting about JSL automation. A little carelessness will often make people confused and fail to achieve the expected results. First of all, friends who use laptops should pay special attention to:
Question 1: There is a management restriction on "power" in the large "condition" setting of each task. By default, is it required to "start this task only when the computer is using AC power"?
answer:
Many friends who use the task plan for the first time will have this problem, because they are not connected to the power source and cannot perform automatic tasks. In order to avoid confusion, you can uncheck this option, and other condition options are also set according to the actual situation. So there is no worries! (Figure 7)

Figure 7: Select the power option in the settings
Secondly, it is the setting for running JSL in JMP.
Question 2: The task is started on time, but it is found that the JSL program file is only opened every time, but it is not executed. Why is this so?
answer:
This situation occurs because JMP's improper setting of the JSL opening method is caused, that is, every time a JSL document is opened, the program is automatically executed, rather than the document editing window is opened.
To solve this problem, you need to check the option of "JMP Preferences ➡ Windows Specific" "JSL script should only run and not open after selecting from the recently used file list or file browser", as shown in Figure 8:

In this way, the problems that JSL regularly automatically analyzes can be easily and happily resolved.
Peter no longer has to get up early to give a report! Through today's introduction, you can see the powerful automation features of JSL.
