Thank you to everyone who participated in the JMP-wide brainstorm session – around 140 people contributed to a dynamic conversation about the ways that we can make JMP a better organization.
If you couldn’t make it, we missed you. You can watch the recording below for details.
Jon Weisz (@joweis), Sr. VP and General Manger, put the meeting into the context of ongoing brainstorming activities. “We started this project with a small group in October 2019…always with the intent to expand this process…to everybody.”
And he described the scope of the meeting: “The overall goal is to come up with at least a couple topics or projects that have two critical dimensions…high impact and the ability to get it done within a year.”
Once we identify projects that meet the criteria, we’ll form workstreams to bring the projects to life. Previous sessions resulted in improvements including online subscription ordering and InsideJMP.
This is an opportunity to work cross-functionally, respond to critical business needs, and shape the future of JMP.

How did it go?
Ten groups brainstormed on seven topics (A few of the topics were so popular they required two rooms.) They included:
- UX/UI
- Education
- Recruitment & Retention
- Working in a New World
- Professional Development
- External Collaborations
- Data for Good
Anne Milley presented on behalf of Data for Good.
Brian Washington presented on behalf of Professional Development.
Julian Parris presented on behalf of UX/UI.
Sarah Springer presented on behalf of Education.
Then each group summarized their conversation in a five-minute pitch to all – a quick outline of the topic, why we should address it, and ideas for how to do so.
At the end, participants ranked the topics on the two important criteria Jon mentioned at the start:
- The impact on JMP as a company
- The ability to address the topic within a year
The results will lead us into the next phase: Identifying projects to address in 2022, as well as those who would like to continue as a member of a workstream. More to come!
Thanks for holding this session and to those who organized it; really appreciate being able to give feedback and suggestions and hearing input from global colleagues.
