US Naval AcademyUS Naval AcademyThe United States Naval Academy is a federal service academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Established in 1845, it educates officers for commissioning primarily into the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The Naval Academy recently licensed the JMP Academic Suite (JAS) for the Mathematics Department. Pany Allen (@pany_allen) reports that they plan to use JMP and JMP Pro for their introductory statistics classes and select advanced analytics courses. They are already in discussion to expand to a campuswide license with engineering school support.

Other highlights
- Year to date, we have documented 121 new course adoptions of JMP at universities worldwide, along with 100 new adopting professors. These are in addition to the ~2500 courses already using JMP. - Statistics for History? Yes, Cornell University ran a new summer course on the use of analytics in historical research with faculty and graduate student participants from over 20 different universities. JMP is the software of choice in this course and Kevin Potcner (@kpotcner) provided an introductory workshop for participants. This course highlights the widening utility of data analysis across academic disciplines and helps to expand our campus footprint at Cornell and beyond.
- Students love JMP, and we get a lot of them downloading the trial, registering their licensed copies and using our resources. It is interesting to see trends and seasonality in these activities as proxies for course use. Our JAS licenses are all unlimited, so we don’t get counts of student users beyond direct contact or through our annual survey of faculty. East China Normal UniversityEast China Normal UniversityClare Zhang (@Clare) reports that East China Normal University has acquired a JAS license and adopted it for a new online course, Design and Analysis of Experiments. The course is open to all students and the public twice a year. Professor Zhou, Faculty of Economics and Management, and her students found JMP to be very powerful, fast and enjoyable to use. She persuaded the school leaders to purchase JMP, although it took lots of effort. Thanks to Alex Xu (@Alex_Xu), Sherry Fang (@Sherry) and especially to Tom Tao (@TomTao1), who helped Professor Zhao move her course online.
Clare ZhangClare ZhangSoutheast University’s School of Public Health has purchased and adopted JMP Clinical. Their budget was limited, and the purchasing request was originally declined more than once by school leaders. However, the team saw the need and persevered. Clare, along with Alex Xu and Zhihong Xu (@zhihong_xu), visited campus in March 2021 for a presentation and demo. Professor Chen helped to get their Vice Dean to attend the meeting as well. Alex’s demo was a big success and all the teachers and students in attendance were impressed, as was the Vice Dean, who provided support for moving forward with a departmentwide JMP Clinical license.

Murali AnandamurthyMurali AnandamurthyMurali Anandamurthy (@Muralidhara) reports that The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering department of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has onboarded JMP. IISc is India’s top university for science and is also among the top 200 global universities. The professors appreciated the Design of Experiments (DOE) platform. They will integrate JMP in both engineering statistics and DOE courses.
Indian Institute of ScienceIndian Institute of ScienceMurali has coordinated the development of 15 new academic case studies, published in Q3 (for a total of 46). Academic case studies include problem scenarios (with JMP data tables), followed by multistep solution paths. They conclude with summaries, insights and exercises ready to be assigned to students. Most have been coauthored with faculty and customers and tested in the classroom. These new cases cover some new ground in terms of applications and methodology, including quality tools, time series, text mining and discrete choice models. You may also find them useful for demos for your commercial customers. These are posted at www.jmp.com/cases.
Other highlights
- IPHACON 2021: JMP conducted a pre-conference workshop for Annual National Conference of the Indian Public Health Association (IPHACON 2021) on Statistical Discovery and Data Visualization for Health Sciences. The goal was to emphasize the capabilities of JMP related to health and medical sciences. More than 60 professors and researchers attended the session.
- Murali presented Novel Materials: Advances and Applications in a Faculty Development Program organized by National Institute of Technology, Raipur, and highlighted the importance of structured experimentation in engineering sciences.
- New licenses were secured at the M.S. Ramaiah Group of Institutions (MSRIM and MSRIT). Both are onboarding JMP in their teaching and research.
EMEA
University of OsloUniversity of OsloThe University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's oldest institution for research and higher education, with 28,000 students, 8 faculties and two museums. It constitutes Norway's largest research institution with 10 centers of excellence in sciences and new technologies.
Using LinkedIn and strategically targeting a few evaluation licenses of JMP Pro, Paolo Chiappa (@paolo_chiappa) identified a new champion, Professor Torsten Eken, who facilitated a wider discussion among departments, a Zoom workshop and discussion with the IT decision makers. As a result, the UiO purchased a campus license and will give users the choice to install the software locally or use it in the cloud via the new Presentation Virtualization license. Paolo and Volker Kraft (@volker_kraft) have organized a series of workshops to expand use this Fall and beyond.
The academic team attended the virtual conferences of IASE, ENBIS and SEFI. Several engagements including live presentations, workshops and a roundtable discussion, all of which provided visibility and many leads for follow-up.
