Welcome to the JMP Development Update for October 8, 2021!
Thanks to everyone for participating in JMP Discovery Summit this week! Whether you attended talks, presented, or chatted with customers at Meet the Experts (or all of the above), you helped bring JMP development closer to our customers. If you have development related notes to share from the conference, you can add them here in Confluence.
Testing has now signed off on JMP 17 EA3 and we expect to announce its availability to customers next Wednesday. Thank you for updating your feature pages and preparing videos of new and updated features that are ready for testing! We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback already and are looking forward to more in this latest round.
We didn’t have a dev meeting this week, but we will meet next week to learn about the Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) work that Elizabeth Claassen has undertaken for JMP 17. I do have openings left for dev meetings in October and November so please contact me if you’d like to demo a new feature or share any coding tips soon.
Thanks very much to Tonya for sharing Beta/Crash/Telemetry tracks with crashes selected. You can find the JMP Live report here: Beta/Crash/Telemetry tracks for the week of 10/8/2021 | JMP Live (sas.com)

JMP Development Updates
Data Discovery
- Dan S: Met with customers at Discovery, fixed bugs in CalendarBox and hexagonal heatmaps in Graph Builder. Started a small add-in to help with using the JSL debugger for JMP Clinical. Working on a new feature for the box property panel to help JSL developers who need to access boxes by xpath/subscript.
- Dave B: Fixed graph builder heatmap hover label locations and labels after filtering rows
- Evan: Added ability to get a robust JSL expression for navigating between two Display Boxes uses XPath or Display Box Subscripting.
DOE
- Caleb: Spent most of my time at Discovery, helping to host the Meet the Experts sessions. Had lots of good conversations with customers. A few even learned something new about the DOE platform! Attended a few of the simu-live talks. My favorite talk was a poster presentation in which the presenter used DOE to help improve an acoustics product. It was amazing to see how much of an improvement she was able to make over other standard products! Working on last minute 16.2 bug fixes and string edits.
- Brad: Presented a case study with Rob Reul for Discovery. Did an online Q&A with young researchers at the DAE conference on how to do well as an industrial statistician.
HTML5
- John Powell: Discussed creating presentations containing interactive HTML content with Mike Anderson and Josh M. Started working on Parallel Plot tooltips. Planning our next sprint. Attended JMP Discovery – I liked all the plenary talks and social events, “JMP Can be Shiny Too” poster, talks by Anderson Mayfield, Mike Anderson, DairyGold, Scott Wise, and Jordan Hiller and Aurora’s impromptu presentation of JMP Live Control Chart Warnings in Meet the Experts. Investigating feedback from Lafarge’s evaluation of JMP Live.
- Bryan F: Posted Confidence-Curves Add-In to JMP Community. Wrote and submitted abstract for the 2022 JMP European Discovery Conference. Had two knowledge transfer sessions with Praveena Panineerkandy. Participated in “Meet the Expert” sessions each day of the conference and posted on Linked In about JMP Discovery Summit. Continued developing unit tests for the HTML5 implementation of packed bar charts. Participated in HTML5 sprint planning and backlog refinement/grooming meeting.
- Praveena: Completed work on bug JMPHTML-1198 and started work on refactoring the test directory JMPHTML-504 .
JMP Live
- Justin: Updated the JmpEventQueue with a new event type for post-processing data tables uploaded to JMP Live. The post-processing steps currently set a table variable with the JMP Live ID and extract the Source script for the table to the database.
- Michael G: Discovery & Meet the Experts. Various small improvements and polish around JMP Live Spaces.
- Aurora: Hierarchical Folders (preparatory work: clarify special privileges of content publishers, ditch obsolete attribute, polish REST API responses and documentation). Discovery.
Statistics
- Jianfeng: Fixing defects, talking to customers and answering their questions this week. I attended several talks and really enjoyed some of them. I had a very informative discussion with customer Isaac Himanga along with several other statistical developers. We will consider incorporating Isaac’ requests into PCA and PLS for future releases.
- John Sall: Reorganized Standardize option in Hierarchical Cluster (JMP-7445).
Added "Late Join Outliers" option to Hierarchical Clustering. (JMP-7511)
- Peng: Attended Discovery and Meet the Experts on Wednesday afternoon. As in the past, not much traffic on my topic. Served one customer for quite a while, and I believed he got what he needed before Zoom cut us off. Continued working on repeated degradation platform.
- Laura C-S: Participated in Discovery, continued working on updating the old SEM code, gave a live webinar on SEM for ENBIS.
Stat Documentation
- Colleen: Attended Discovery talks. Doc specific: Worked on help keys, made some edits in MM based on feedback from translation, and updated the Validation Column Utility doc to include K Fold Validation. Testing specific: Talked with Nicole about ways to utilize the testing framework to check for changes in screen shots. I’ve started initial work on this and it will be a project that gives me some introduction and experience with testing, but also benefits the documentation as well.
- Michael C: Ran EA3 doc production checks for BA, FLM, and RSM books; helped with Meet the Experts and listened to some talks for Discovery.
Stat Testing
- Tonya: Most of my time this week has been spent viewing Discovery presentations.
- Jacob: Attending Discovery. Testing Missing Value Clustering and investigating odd cases where it fails to find categorical missing values (JMP-7504). Verifying DOE Jira issues and working on unit tests. Investigating potential performance issues.
Technical Support
- Duane: It’s been a busy week, for sure. I have heard from many on my team that the Meet the Experts time with development has been good. Building those relationships is very valuable. Here are the TS JMP Live reports, and here is information regarding Jira tickets opened by Tech Support.

Development Operations
- Jim: Build JMP EA #3. Various system and other software updates on build and testing machines. Perforce support.

- Myron: Adjustments and testing for MIF/PDF doc jobs.
Documentation
- Qiana: Attended Discovery keynotes and sessions. Met with Documentation team members individually, as well as Audrey and Nicole, and attended group meetings with DevOps team. - Sheila: Investigated missing font issues. Reviewed the EA help and fixed issues in the FrameMaker files. Verified SEO Jira issues. Started to work again on the Discovering JMP web pages.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: For Discovery Summit, met with the selected customers for the virtual lab to discuss the table shaper/workflow builder and get feedback to know what development direction to pursue moving forward. Good discussion, and now Ernest and Julian have some plans. Mia will schedule a follow up meeting next week. Worked on verifying some more JIRA tickets; Entered a JIRA with Tabulate where numbers were stacked wrong – now working on testing that fix.
