Many friends have faced this problem: statistical software produces a bunch of results, and they have to copy and paste them one by one into the article, or manually copy them one by one. In this process of copying, pasting or copying, it is not only prone to errors, but also This may call into question the validity of the information. So is there a good way to save time and not worry about making mistakes? Is there a good way to directly output the analysis table in JMP? Of course! In today's article, we will use an example to illustrate that through a few simple steps, we can quickly generate cross-analysis statistical reports in JMP .
Basic applications of Tabulate
Suppose we have the following data (Figure 1, only part shown):

Figure 1 - Demonstration data
The tabulation function of JMP is located in the "Analyze " menu, select "Tabulate ", as shown in Figure 2 below:

Figure 2 – JMP’s tab menu
After entering the Tabulate interface, you will find the consistent feature of JMP - interactivity , that is, you do not select the statistical description indicators you want to output in the menu, and then output a fixed table in the results; rather, according to your Just drag and drop the indicators you want to display . This design allows users to adjust the output content more freely and quickly.

Figure 3 - JMP tabulate operation interface
As can be seen from Figure 3, the tabulation function supports the output of a variety of commonly used statistics including number, mean, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value, etc., which can basically meet all the needs of research papers.
01 - Display the number of cases for categorical variables
The form creation method in JMP continues JMP's consistent drag function. For example, if we want to see the number of cases for smokers and non-smokers, we simply drag the variable "smoking" into the drop area of "column" in the upper right corner (you can also drag into the "column" in the lower left corner ( Rows) , depending on whether it is displayed in vertical columns or horizontal rows).
02 - Display the mean and standard deviation of continuous variables
For classification indicators such as smoking, just drag in and two groups of people will be displayed by default. If you want to display the age of two groups of people, smoking and non-smoking, just drag "Age" into the drag and drop area of the row, as shown in Figure 5 .

Figure 5 - Diagram of dragging in the second variable
After dragging "age" into the corresponding position, the result is as shown in Figure 6. JMP will give the "sum" result by default (continuous variables display the sum by default), that is, the sum of the ages of the two groups of smokers and non-smokers.

Figure 6
If you want to further display other statistics, such as mean and standard deviation. Simply select "Standard Deviation" from the list on the left and drag it into the corresponding position in the table on the right. The most important thing here is to pay attention to the position of the cursor when dragging. If "Standard Deviation" is dragged below "Sum" (the position shown in Figure 7) , a blue short line will be displayed at this time, which means that a line will be added below "Sum". Standard Deviation" indicator.

Figure 7 - Schematic diagram of adding different statistical indicators
If you want to replace "sum" with
"Mean", you can drag "Mean" to the "Sum" position (the position shown in Figure 8) . At this time, the position is displayed as a blue box, which means replacement, replacing "sum" with "average".

Figure 8 - Schematic diagram of replacing statistical indicators
In this way, we obtained the mean and standard deviation information between smoking and age, as shown in Figure 9.

Figure 9 - Statistical indicator display results
03 - Display the mean and standard deviation of multiple variables
In addition to age, suppose we also want to display the mean and standard deviation of the physical health score. At this time, there is no need to repeat the operation of the "physical health score" variable. Just drag the "physical health score" below "Age" ( Figure 10) . This When a thick blue line appears below the age variable ( note comparison with Figure 7, Figure 7 is below the statistical indicators, here it is below the variable) , based on the existing statistical indicators ( mean and standard deviation ) of "age" , "Physical Health Score" displays the same content.

Figure 10 - Diagram of adding new variables
The results are shown in Figure 11 below. In this way, we obtained the mean and standard deviation of age and physical health scores grouped by whether they smoked or not.

Figure 11 - Results of adding new variables
04 - Different variables display different statistical descriptive indicators
As can be seen from Figure 10 above, as long as the statistical indicators of one variable are set, if other variables want to display the same content, just drag them below the existing variables. However, in practice, this dragging method is shown in Figure 12. Dragging it below the entire table is equivalent to starting from scratch and adding a new table.

Figure 12 - Drag-and-drop diagram of different variables displaying different indicators
Since this is a newly added table and BMI is a continuous variable, "sum" is still displayed by default ( Figure 13) . If you want to change to "median", the operation is the same as before, just cover the "sum" with the median. See Figure 8 for the dragging method.

Use JMP to quickly find relationships between factors
From the previous introduction, you can know that this operation method is actually very simple. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the position and shape of the blue line when dragging. In order to let everyone be better familiar with these methods, Figure 14 is dynamically displayed.

Figure 14
Some people may say that the required indicators are there, but they don’t seem to be what we ultimately want. There are too many decimal points. How can we adjust the values? In the next article, we will introduce how to adjust the table format and how to save it into a format that you can directly use. Download JMP now to try it out and follow the article to practice!
