Many friends have faced such a problem: statistical software has to copy and paste a bunch of results into the article one by one, or manually copy them down one by one. In this way, the process of copying and pasting or copying is not only easy to make mistakes, but also possible. People question the rationality of the information. Is there a good way to save time without worrying about making mistakes? JMP How about directly outputting the analysis table? Of course there is! In today’s article, we will use examples to illustrate. Through a few simple steps, we will be able to JMP Quickly generate cross-analyzed statistical reports in .
Basic application of Tabulate
Suppose we have the following information (Figure 1, only part of it is shown):

Figure 1-Demonstration data
The tabulation function of JMP is located in "Analyze " In the menu, select "Tabulate ",As shown below 2:

Figure 2-JMP's Tab Menu
After entering the Tabulate interface, you will find JMP's consistent feature - interactivity , That is, instead of selecting the statistical description index you want to output in the menu, and then output a fixed table in the result; but Drag the indicators you want to display according to your needs , This design can facilitate users to adjust the output content more freely and quickly.

Figure 3-JMP tabulate operation interface
It can be seen from Figure 3 that the tabulation function supports the output of a variety of commonly used statistics including number, mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum, which can basically meet all the needs of research papers.
01- Show the number of cases of categorical variables
The way of making tables in JMP continues JMP's consistent dragging function. For example, if we want to see the respective numbers of smoking and non-smokers, simply drag the variable "smoking" into the "column" in the upper right corner. ”(You can also drag into the “row( Rows) "The pallet area" depends on whether it is displayed vertically or horizontally).
02- Display the mean and standard deviation of continuous variables
For the classification index of smoking, as long as it is dragged in, two groups of people will be displayed by default. If you want to display the age of the two groups of smokers and non-smokers, just drag "age" into the drag and drop area of the row, as shown in Figure 5. .

Figure 5-Schematic diagram of dragging in the second variable
After dragging the "age" into the corresponding position, the result is shown in Figure 6, JMP Will give by default The result of "sum" (continuous variables are displayed as the sum by default), that is, the sum of the ages of the two groups of smokers and non-smokers.

Image 6
If you want to further display other statistics, such as mean and standard deviation. Simply select "Standard Deviation" from the list on the left and drag it to the corresponding position in the table on the right. The most important thing here is to pay attention to the cursor position when dragging. If the "standard deviation" is dragged below the "sum" ( picture 7 position shown) , A short blue line is displayed at this time, which means Add a row of "standard deviation" indicators below the "sum".

Figure 7-Schematic diagram of adding different statistical indicators
If you want to replace "sum" with
Mean", drag the "Mean" to the "Sum" position ( picture 8 position shown) . At this time, the position is displayed as a blue box, which means to replace, with " "Average" replaces "Sum".

Figure 8-Schematic diagram of replacement statistical indicators
In this way, we have obtained the average and standard deviation data between smoking and age, as shown in Figure 9.

Figure 9-Statistical indicators display results
03- Display the mean and standard deviation of multiple variables
In addition to age, suppose we also want to display the mean and standard deviation of the physical health score. At this time, there is no need to repeat the operation on the "variable," just drag the "physical health score" to the bottom of "age" ( picture 10) , A thick blue line appears below the age variable ( Note and Figure 7Comparison, Figure 7 is below the statistical indicators, here is below the variables) ,according to "Age" existing statistical indicators ( Mean and standard deviation ) , The "Physical Health Score" shows the same content.

Figure 10-Schematic diagram of adding new variables
The results are shown in Figure 11 below. In this way, we obtain the mean and standard deviation of age and physical health scores based on whether or not they smoke.

Figure 11-The result of adding a new variable
04- Different variables show different statistical description indicators
As can be seen from Figure 10 above, as long as the statistical index of one variable is set, if other variables want to display the same content, just drag them under the existing variables. However, in practice, this dragging method is shown in Figure 12. Dragging to the bottom of the entire table is equivalent to starting anew and adding a new table.

Figure 12-Drag and drop diagram of different variables showing different indicators
Since it is a newly added table and BMI is a continuous variable, it still displays "total" by default ( picture 13) . If you want to change to "Median", the operation at this time is the same as the previous introduction, just overwrite the "Sum" with the median. The drag method is shown in Figure 8.

Figure 13-The results of adding different variables and different indicators
Use JMP to quickly find the relationship between factors
Through the previous introduction, we can know that this operation method is actually very simple. The only thing that needs to be paid attention to is the position and shape of the blue line when dragging. In order to make everyone more familiar with these methods, Figure 14 shows the dynamic display.

Some people may say that there are some indicators, but they don’t seem to be what they want in the end. There are too many decimal points. How can we adjust the values? In the next article, we will introduce how to adjust the table format and how to save it in a format that you can directly use. immediately download JMP try out , Follow the article to practice!
