Images auto-populate in a dashboard via local data filter

A customer has built out a robust dashboard. In this dashboard they use a conditional local data filter to dial into particular part numbers, serial numbers, etc. They would like to be able to select the particular combination using the local data filter and in addition to have their manufacturing specs appear in the particular data report, they would also like to have a series of images appear within the dashboard associated with the selected combination. They're making drill bits and each bit has a certain number of cutters (up to 36, I believe), so on their dashboard there would be a grid that populates up to 36 images, one for each cutter, beside the data report. They're willing to call out to python, R, or some other means to construct the mosaic if need be, meaning to JMP, the image mosaic could be just a single image. It would seem to me that they would need to set their local data filter then have some sort of 'execute' button to get the image so as not to be constantly trying to query 1000's of images as they dial in their conditional data filter.

I haven't seen anything like this before--any thoughts on how one might script/build this?

Hi Peter,

One way to do this is with a 0-transparency Heatmap element, and Points element using the "use as marker" property on an image column. The images would need to be appropriately-sized for best results, and the "execute" button could set the "use as marker" property once the filter is dialed in. I'm not sure how performance would be for 1000s of images. Depends on how many thousands, I suppose.

Also, you want R and C columns for the heatmap, so maybe they want 4x9 or 6x6 for their setup. See attached table, which contains script as well.

I didn't check details, but, FYI, you can probably get rid of the buttons by using the 'Make Row State Handler' message. See, for example, here thanks to @danschikore

As a test, I just finished concatenating the table until it was 400,000 rows. It took graph builder a while to load. (A minute? Two?) Once it had loaded, cycling among the 50,000 groups was virtually instantaneous.
