It would be nice to be able to organize add-ins into submenus
@andreacoombs ,
This functionality already exists. Take a look at the submenu section of the New Add-in dialog:
You can add a submenu with a name: Then add the Command with the desired script. If you use the same submenu name for a new add-in, it will be placed in the same submenu. There can be nested submenus as well
Is this what you were looking for?
@Chris_Kirchberg - I think this request is more for add-ins that are already installed or that are made by others.
@Chris_Kirchberg - Mike is correct. I want to be able to organize my Add-In menu by creating submenus. Not only would it make things easier to find, but I also do not want some visible to customers since the are for internal use only.
@MikeD_Anderson ,
I think this can sort of be done now under Customize>Menus and Tool Bars but it is clunky. Also can do by modifying underling Add-in files (addin.jmpcust) like so:
<!-- JMP Add-In Builder created --><jm:menu_and_toolbar_customizations xmlns:jm="http://www.jmp.com/ns/menu" version="3"> <jm:insert_in_main_menu> <jm:insert_in_menu> <jm:name>ADD-INS</jm:name> <jm:insert_after> <jm:name></jm:name> <jm:menu> <jm:name>TRAINING STARTERS</jm:name> <jm:caption>Training Starters</jm:caption> <jm:command> <jm:name>JMP 11 TRAINING STARTER</jm:name> <jm:caption>JMP 11 Training Starter</jm:caption> <jm:action type="text">/*
But that is kind of clunky too. This is how I organize all my Training Starters and other Internal Add-ins by adding <jm:menu> tag with <jm:name> and <jm:caption> before the add-in command in question. I also included the closing tag as well. I do it for each of the add-ins to be grouped in the same submenu (Training Starters in this example).
@andreacoombs , maybe adding some more details as to how one would like to do this would really help PM.
I would like to use Customize Menus and Toolbars to create submenus within the Add-Ins menu. Picture below show where this functionality would be.
I think that's only possible on windows
Exists in Mac too under View>Customize Menus but not as functional as Windows Version. My method of moding the addin.jmpcust works for both Mac and Windows and is more direct. Maybe having a move option in the Customize Menus would be the key here and making it available for Mac and Windows.
@andreacoombs , I can copy and paste Add-ins into a submenu within Add-ins menu, but I can not move or delete Add-ins from this interface. Instead, if you copy the add-in into the submenu, save, then unregister the add-in, it is effectively moved. However, if the add-in is pointing to a jsl file instead of having the JSL copied into the command item, it will break.
Not a very robust solution so I stick with modifying the addin.jmpcust file like above which "moves" it to the submenu of choice.
I too would like a command within the Customize Menus and Toolbars interface to move a menu item like an add-in into a newly created submenu within the Add-in menu or other custom menu made.
Oh Oh Oh. I just realized that if you copy and paste an add-in within a submenu from an add-in, you can "hide" the original one so you do not loose its file reference. Still clunky. I would rather move it.
