Unimicron Technology (28 Feb 2021 – HMT T1)
Unimicron Technology, the second-largest printed circuit board (PCB) and carrier board (IC) manufacturer in the world, recently boosted its JMP usage by adding 192 licenses, bringing its total to 311.
Unimicron’s IC business unit first began using JMP about 10 years ago at the request of Intel, gradually adding more licenses until it reached 119. However, other business units were not using JMP and were struggling to integrate data and analyze their processes in a timely manner. These other business units were also having a difficult time persuading their customers to accept their findings. Orcas Chen says, “The management team wanted a better way to improve analytical efficiency and communicate with customers more easily.”
Orcas continues, “At Unimicron’s request, we met with potential users several times to let them know about customizable JSL functions. They then decided to position JMP as the engineering data analysis system for all business units, adding 192 JMP licenses." The DataMation team is responsible for developing customized functions and sends regularly scheduled reports via the Windows Task Scheduler.
Orcas predicts, "As more customized functions are developed, JMP will continue to help Unimicron improve its analytical efficiency and communicate with customers more easily."

AWE (11 Jun 2021 – UK T1)
AWE, which manufactures, maintains and develops Trident nuclear warheads for the UK, recently acquired a JMP server license for 33 users.
At the beginning of 2020, AWE had five JMP users. Over the past year, UK T1 worked with AWE’s existing champion and developed a second champion to understand the value JMP provided to those five users and why it was important to AWE. Ferenc Meszaros says, “As a result of these discussions, we discovered that the management team had a very strong message to scientists: do things quicker and save money wherever you can." In accordance with this message, AWE’s production team had been using JMP and DOE to accurately forecast the number of experimental runs. Since AWE hired external sites to carry out their experiments, smart planning with JMP took the sting out of this cost.
Sharing these compelling successes has become routine for the scientists at AWE, now that they have their own internal JMP user group that meets once a quarter. These meetings have fostered organic growth of JMP users within AWE over the past year.
Ferenc continues, “This success and the additional JMP licenses resulted in IT at AWE approaching us to discuss the best way to deploy JMP to support further expansion. Their preference was to deploy the software on a server so that it can be accessed by a wider user base in the future. At the same time, AWE’s champions saw an opportunity to expand yet again, adding 10 users at the last minute!”
Building on this momentum, UK T1 is already in discussion with AWE to further expand their use of JMP over the second half of 2021.
