Molecular testing played a key role in the global efforts to contain and mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic by identifying infected individuals to help prevent further person-to-person transmission. The sudden surge in COVID-19 testing put a demand on labs to rapidly increase testing up to 300% capacity, which led to increased risk of contamination. With the urgency of testing and the potential costs to a lab exceeding $100K, it was imperative for us to develop a quick and easy way to identify and contain the impacts of a potential contamination event.
In this talk, we focus on a single use case and demonstrate the simple step-by-step approach used to review testing data, which ultimately allowed us to narrow down to the exact instrument, day, hour and even technician that caused the contamination. This analysis provides a simple feedback loop that is flexible to each customer's situation, uses their own data, and quickly guides resolution of the situation so they may safely return to normal testing volumes. We utilize the known normal distribution of sample results testing values in combination with JMP's Data Filter, Tabulate and Graph Builder for this analysis.
