Academic Team Update
Effective July 28, Ross Metusalem moves from his role as an SE to join the Academic Team. The new gig caps off a month of exciting changes for Ross, which began when he and his wife Liz welcomed baby Evan on July 6. Congratulations to everyone!

The new Minitab to JMP Transition Guide has been released. Designed for use by both commercial and academic customers, the guide showcases JMP’s exploratory and interactive approach to data analysis compared to Minitab’s one-analysis-at-a-time approach. Commercial SEs can use the guide to prepare for demos or to share with prospects and customers to highlight the key differences between these two products. It can also help customers learn how to use JMP to do the analyses that they are currently doing in the latest version of Minitab.
You can find the paper here.
News from Americas: In April, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) obtained a campuswide JMP Academic Suite in a deal valued at $5,000. With six colleges, more than 50 undergraduate degree programs, approximately 60 graduate degree programs (including 19 programs leading to a PhD in a professional discipline), and more than 70 specialized laboratories and research centers, NJIT is home to more than 11,400 students and nearly 500 full-time and adjunct faculty members. JMP will be used in courses for the Martin Tuchman School of Management, with plans to expand usage across campus.
In the second quarter, new JMP Academic Suite licenses were also secured at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, University of Victoria, University of Hartford, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Longwood University, Salem State University, Rush University, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and Central State University.
News from Asia: National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) and Indian Institute of Management, Vishakhapatnam (IIMV) are two premier universities in India that have onboarded JMP as part of their curricula. IIMV is developing a unique new course on Statistical Thinking for Managerial Decision Making using JMP. (Thanks to Mia and her team for providing STIPS material!) NITIE will be adopting JMP for DOE and predictive modeling courses in its program.
News from EMEA: The Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world’s leading research institutions in the natural and exact sciences; it educates a substantial proportion of Israel’s scientific leadership and advances science literacy in schools and among the public. After an initial engagement in 2017, a meeting was finally secured in May 2019 with the help of Mia Computers. Professor Dan Yakir (recent recipient of the Israel Prize, the country’s highest honor for cultural contributions) and his Ecophysiology Group scheduled a session with Volker Kraft. After several follow-up discussions, a few JMP Pro trial licenses were provided to researchers there.
The final hurdle to clear was dismantling the technical lab chief’s belief that Tableau was better just because it was cheaper. The team eventually proved that JMP offered many more options for statistical analysis and, unlike Tableau, could conceive experimental designs with just a few mouse clicks. So after a long wait, the customer finally purchased a departmentwide license in April to run research projects and train PhD students on data visualization and DOE. The Academic Team plans to visit the customer again as soon pandemic-related travel restrictions are lifted.
In other EMEA news, the Academic Team provided two webinars in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry/Chemistry World. With help from EU Marketing and our guest speakers, Prof. David Meintrup (Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences) and Prof. Mimi Hii (Imperial College London), more than 1,100 new leads have been collected. Both webinars are available online for on-demand viewing.
